Another Audigy 2 Question

Hi. I am looking into buying a new sound card, but I want to make sure that I will have a noticable benefit.

I currently have a Philips Rhythmic Edge (PSC705) 5.1ch sound card, plugged into some Logitech Z640 (5.1ch) speakers. The card sounds fine and all, and suppords DirectSound3d as well as Creative EAX v1 and v2.

However, its implementation of EAX is somewhat lacking. The reverberation and other effects are somewhat dull, and lack the depth of what I remember coming out of my SB Live about 6 or 7 years ago.

Newegg is selling Audigy 2 Value Edition (ZS without dts and firewire) for ~$45. I have no need for DTS and my motherboard has Firewire on it.

It has all the connectors I need, and supports 2 more channels for as soon as I get a new set of speakers.

Is this a good deal? Is this a good upgrade?

I'd rather buy OEM than have to mess around with MIRs.


Thanks, though. I ordered it this morning. I was hoping to be able to order it in time for my weekly LAN party tomorrow night, but it didn't work out that way.

Buy anything except the AUDIGY 2 NX USB, if you are used to the good old sound
of an internal Audigy or similiar...

I only recomend this product to anyone with notebooks and new machines with no sound card.
