I was looking to ask this in the What's the best 24" monitor to Buy thread but it looks like he has some different requirements.
For the last couple of weeks I have been looking into monitors for gaming.
For me the qualifications are:
1) 24+" or bigger.
2) Handle native 1080P resuiltions.
3) Has to work great with PC games - IE no ghosting and tearing. FPS and MMORPG I play a lot so this is a big concern.
4) Has to work 1080P on PS3 and Xbox 360
5) Blue ray watching - HDCP protection at 1080P
6) Works good for my photoshop work - in other words a way to make it have accurate color
7) Not a gloss coated screen
8) 1:1 ratio
9) $800 or under. The cheaper the better
10) Rotation on stand would be nice to switch between portrait and landscape
11) Oh space is NOT an issue
I might be able to live with the monitor if one or two qualifcations aren't meet.
So far the competition has been BENQ FP241 and Gateway's FPD2485w monitors
at least in my vision to buy.
Both of them seem to have major flaws. Benq with it's inability to do 1:1 ratios and Gateway with well being Gateway. For the Gateway the problems - people complaining about problems production quality issues, general flaws in the monitor design and the lack of a HDMI port makes it a pain if I have the XBOX 360, PS3, PC hooked up at the same time. I would have to use the component input for the PS3 or use the DVI-D being forced to switch it with the PC. Neither won't make me as happy as using a HDMI input.
I've even started to look into the Sceptre x22wg-Gamer 22" as a stop gap to replace the 20" dell 2005FPW until a new monitor is out but I think that will not make me happy either (resolution and not much of a size difference).
A part me HOPES CES will have a new monitor coming out in the next month. Either way I need to get it in the next few weeks so this is making me "antsy" to say the least
Any advice is recommended even a "just buy it stupid you like it" might also help
Thanks for your opinion.
