Anandtech tests DDR1 with Conroe

You Sir are just plain rude. You are not the kind of person I would look to for advice on anything. sigh :(

And you're a fairy dust neaner.. So what?

I wouldn't care if you asked me for my help or not... But you act like I was arguing... But that's the part of game when you like something and disagree with something isn't it? And I wasn't arguing... The other guy just got fed up when I spoke facts and history...

Oh I took a lot of $hit from wanna be nice guys like you (non genuine)... I did for a very long time... And I still have it in back of my head till this day and probably will take it to my grave...

Fact is you can act like you know me all you want and try to punish me, hurt me, eat me... whatever.... But you really don't know nothing about anyone except a glimpse of your views and the judgement you make on people...

LOL... wow emo much? I didn't get fed up... just got tired of wasting my time. Time will tell... and I'm leaving it at that with you.

Poncho. I love the way you argue; you’re blunt and yeah.

You must really love your company... Must be the stocks you invested...

Intel didn't do that overnight... They been building it up since pentium 3... Pentium 3 ------> Pentium M --------> core duo --------> duo core conroe.... Intel finally realized pentium 4 wasn't working so they went back and built up their pentium 3 architecture...

It took them decades and you can't just bring a card that competes with ATI and Nvidia overnight... They've also been building their architecture for years and assimilliated other companies to achieve where they're today.. Intel will surely make a budget onboard graphics card that will be hopefully have similar performance like 6800 but they're dreaming as usual...

You also have to remember that ATI and nVidia specialize in graphics. That’s like asking Vonage to make CPUs and do VoIP at the same time.

I don’t get why you’re bashing Intel. For a while, NetBurst was great. Remember Northwood? It has been said that it took Intel several years to design core. So, design of Core 2 should have started around 2003ish or right before Prescott came out. They started designing core around the time they found out Prescott was the way that it was.

I'm not even arguing but stating facts here... There's no evidence intel is going to compete in the whole mid range market in the graphics dept. except on a sheet of paper. Intel's been doing that for years... how they are going to offer better solution than say from ATI or Nvidia...

So far intel has released i740, gma900, gma950 graphics... By their track record intel is not going to compete with anything remotely similar to 6800...

It might have the specs like usual but it will fall withing x300 graphics level of performance...

Up until now, it didn’t matter if Intel made fast cards or not because no one really cared. At Vonage, we have several thousand pcs, mostly Intel platforms with Intel most of them use the 915 (D510) graphics and some use the GMA950 (GX280, GX520, GX620) and there are some here and there with quadros, fireMVs (que watchers) and 810s with X600s. I haven’t gotten one complaint that the graphics on a pc were too slow because they’re not going to be playing COD on their laptop at work.

Oh and track records don’t predict the future. No one would have thought that Core 2 would be as good as it is. If you were to base it on Intel’s NetBurst track record, it would be 10% slower clock for clock, be like 20% faster and burn 200 watts (going from Northwoods 80ish TDP, to Prescotts 130).

BTW Poncho. I hear that Intel was having problems with the 965 graphics is that true?

Everybody expected conroe to beat ass.... it has pentium M (pentium 3) roots, the pentium M outperformed the athlon 64 in games. Also, expecting conroe to be slow coming from a powerhouse of r&d like intel? lawl.

ut you're saying that 965 onboard graphics will compete with 6800series... A 16pipe card with 256 bit memory bus....

Onboard from intel's previous ones can't even compete with radeon 8500... I wonder how Intel is going to pull a 6800 compareable card within only one generation from previous...

I agree, 6800gt performance from onboard? good luck intel, hope they can pull it off. I'm not saying they can't but that the power req., heat output and die size will be unreasonable for mass production.

this board is for the ppl with athlon XP, northwoods, socket 939 with tons of DDR that they just cant let go of...

dirt cheap upgrade for 939 guys
I was under the impression that MOST 939 boards come standard with PCI-E. I wonder what quality this board is lacking. Anybody, anybody??

EDIT: I misread. :) However, this board is limited to 1.5gb/s HDD transfer rate. :(

EDIT2: No CPU voltage (vcore) adjustment. :(

Seriously, guys, GMA950 runs HL2. It may not run it well, or even as fast as competitors' integarted chips. This, however, is a big leap ahead for a company whose graphics chipsets have long been good for nothing but pushing pixels onto a screen for an OS. It used to be that you'd get laughed out of the room if you tried to game on intel integrated graphics. Now it's possible. Looking at the success of GMA950, I find it believable - not necessarily true, though - that if Intel put their minds (and revenue) to it, they could make an integrated chip that performed somewhere in the ballpark of a 6800GT.

HL2 scales EXTREMELY well. You can play it on a gf2.

Do you feel the need to jump on someone and gang up on people so you feel like you belong somewhere?

We're not talking about CPU... We're talking about intel graphics... And I'm not bashing on Intel CPU or their chipsets and I do have a 965p motherboard with a intel chip.... I love intel but to say their graphics compete with Nvidia 6800gt is rediculous... Intel onboard graphics is about 60% fast as a ATI 200 chip... It's good on paper for OEM and that is about all intel graphics is good for... Running Microsoft word and play half life 6 fps...

Ok... I'm going to say this one last time and then I'm done with you.

I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT GMA950..... I AM TALKING ABOUT THE NEXT GEN GPU THE X3000. Until you have used the X3000 gpu or read reviews on it.... quit saying it's anything.... because you DO NOT FUCKING KNOW what this chip does or can do. Jesus....

I can't really say much.... but yes, they kinda were but it was more of a software issue. Short version... they did alot of things with the GMCH to push the performance of the memory and graphics... and were having some software issues that were worked out. Fairly typical.... hence the extensive validation that Intel does so it'll work right at launch.

What's so different about x3000, or i750, GMA crap intel hyped about their graphics in the past? Every time intel put out a graphics card it's been crap what makes it so different this time around? And you don't have any performance numbers either... So stop the bull-$hit claims how intel is going to compete with 6800gt level of performance...

Intel don't even have their drivers right...... even if they shoved a 16 pipe card with 256 bit memory bus in their motherboard somehow...

You were done a long time ago... You're like a PR guy who is trying to run around in forums how so cool you are and that you work for Intel... Soon as those words came out you were a suspect...

/sigh... not sure why I'm even still doing this... but here we go again...

While I may not have any hard numbers... I have info given to me by the people who are working on this... from a design level to validation to demos. This is information from people who have built this and have used it. Sorry... but I take that as a bit more concrete than you "opinion."

Yea... cause the second they tape out a stepping of silicon it works right off the bat. Their drivers are fine now... but they wern't a few months ago which IS NOT a big deal since it was still in validation phase. That's what you do when you design a part... find the bugs then fix them before you start selling a product. Maybe you don't understand ho wthis works since you are defending a company that has a history of releaseing a product that is not done... and fixing it with driver releases.

Yea... cause all I do is tout how Intel is so great. I never say areas that they could improve or that other companies may have a better product,,,, nor do I admit when I'm wrong. That's right... Intel pays me to surf the web (they kinda do :D) and come to forums to spread lies.... oh, watch out... I'm the master of brainwashing tasked by the evil giant Intel to come here and pull the wool over your eyes....

There is no AMD... there is no nVidia....

Because it is Intel for f*ck's sake!

When you have the money and the manpower and the manufacturing for it , I don't see why Intel can't make a decent leap in GPU power from the low bottom to the middle. They have acquired various tech like PowerVR ( 3000 is based on this ).

GMA 3000 is on 90nm and based on Intel's manufacturing prowess I'm pretty sure it smacks Nvidia and ATI on a per mm^2 basis even though the former use 80nm stuff.

GPUs aren't incredible complicated , in fact they compared to CPUs they are simple and very paralel in nature : you design a pixel pipeline and you copy/paste it 16 times on the chip and voila : a 16 pipeline GPU.You don't give a F**k about die size or power consumption and you're done.
Look at the design cycle : new GPUs are out every 6 months while it takes 3-4 years for CPUs.What is hard to do are drivers , but if Intel could throw a hand ( or 600 SW guys ) from India to help Apple port its stuff , I don't see why they couldn't come up with some decent drivers.

Intel and the GPU business is more or less : I can do it if I want to.And there are some hints that Intel may want to because of the AMD-ATI deal.

The design team.. Yes they must tell you it performs like 6800gt... Oh you must be their supervisor/boss/CEO... because they tell you everything and you know everything that goes around Intel... Damn if they do have their drivers right it might perform better than the 6800... Hell it might even perfrom better than 1900xtx...

Do you even work for intel or is it just all hype and punch lines? with no real backup but a sheet of paper with specs that don't match bandwidth requirement to compare to 6800gt?

quote from white paper
"Intel GMA 3000 graphics engine core runs at 667mhz, supports upto 12.8GB/S of memory bandwidth"

Onboard graphics with 2 or 4 pipes @ 667mhz 12.8gbs of bandwidth and crappy drivers are somehow going to compare to 6800gt?

I know exactly how this works... Drivers need to get optimized for games and ATI or Nvidia does better job than intel has ever done...

Of course you're wrong and your knowledge about computer technology is about when I was like 10...

FACT: intel's x3000 can't compare to 6800gt bandwidth.... No 12 or 16 pipe card in their little bit of space on the 965 board.... And intel's drivers are not optimized for games like Nvidia and ATI...

why don't you give me a conroe while you're at it... Mr CEO of Intel...

Intel has been losing market shares to AMD now for what 2 years???

When intel does this... They're taking a big chance to compete with ATI and Nvidia offering... If they spent a lot of money and didn't suceed they will lose lots of money... It just doesn't happen over night either... Hell they've been slowly losing market shares to AMD for a while now... It's just a stupid idea...
