just got a headphone amp...and not quite sure exactly how it works, and these directions might as well be in another language.

it seems that i plug a headphone sized pin into the back of my comp and two other wires (one red and one white) into the amp, and i do this for Center/Sub, Left and Right.

once that has been done i plug my headphones into the center speaker of my 5.1 system and i can adjust the volume from the amp.

Doesnt quite work like this tho...there is not "Front" outlet on my mobo it seems, just center, rear, mic, Line in and Line out, as well as the optic light.

Any help would be appreciated, just post if better explanation of the situation is needed. :D
 
Two down one to go....
Most integrated solutions have dual purpose jacks.
For instance the mic jack serves as the rear channel output in 5.1 mode. RTM.
 
is it usually just the mic port? or can others serve as the rear? cuz i have a mic plugged into the mic port atm, would i have ot un plug it?
 
First, return the Zalman put the money back your pocket ;)

But otherwise, I looked at the manual for your speakers and the Zalman amp, your description of how you are trying to hook this up is confusing me.

Are you saying that you are attempting to run it in this order?

sound card - Zalman amp - Logitech Z-640 - headphone plugged into headphone plug in on the center speaker (G - on the set-up guide)?

If so that ain't going to work. I would suggest either.

sound card - Logitech Z-640 - Zalman Amp - headphones

Or take a trip to Radio Shack and find a switcher that you place between the sound card and both devices to run them separate.

Also, when you say it isn't working do you mean you are getting no sound are that it doesn't sound like the 5.1 effect is working?
 
I am truly not sure of how to hook it up besides the fact that the wires i am currently using go from the back of the Zalman into my sound card.

Any help? Maybe look at the diagram and give me an idea, this is my first time using a headphone amp and the directions are awful.
 
Well, somebody correct me if I am wrong but without a switcher I think this going to be an either or situation because the headphone plug on the middle speaker would be 2.1 only.

Have you tried just hooking up the amp directly the PC and listening to your headphones with out the Z-640 connected?

Try connecting just the amp and headphones like the image below. How does it sound now?

heres the thing, the headphones in that picture seem to have 3 seperate pins, my headphones have just one

?
 
Dohh!! Then you wasted your money. :eek:

Sorry to put it that way but it is true. That amp is designed for the Zalman headphones in the picture. If you don't have those headphones and don't want to but them, I would return the amp. You might want to do that anyway, given that Zalman's really sound terrible and I can't imagine that an amp would help them any.
 
Err, ya what he isn't saying is that the Zalman headphones have multiple drivers to attempt to replicate a 5.1 systems. In other words it is like having multiple speakers in each headphone cup. That amp is designed to drive that specific design. You probably could create an adapter with some parts and little splicing but it would defeat the purpose because your headphones does not have multiple drivers.

How I can I put this, it would be like having a sound card that supports 5.1 sound plugged into a 2.1 speakers and then asking why it doesn't produce 5.1 sound?

But ya, Zalman should either sell them as a package or specifiy that they are for those phones only.
 
heh heh heh. Can't say i wasn't expecting this, the amp looked like shit right outta the box. Bought it around christmas time and was in a rush...i think i've learned my lesson :D
