Hey All,

I have an aging MSI KT3 Ultra mobo populated with an AMD XP2200 and 512mb of Kingston PC2700. Even with the recent addition of an evga.com 5900se video card the whole rig seems to be getting a bit long in the tooth.

Would it make a noticable difference if I upgraded from the 2200 to a 2600 (266, non Barton)?

I could stomach the $100 for a new XP2600 (266) cpu, but I don't want to absorb the cost of a whole new cpu, mobo, ram right now. Not to mention the OS re-install would just be a pain.

Is the 2600 any easier to overclock than the notoriously stubborn 2200?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I was told the way to go might be to purchase a XP2000 and O/C it to past XP2600 levels. Thoughts?

the jiuhb xp2100 overclocks better than the XP2000 and prolly even the xp2600. The tbred b xp2100's often get to 2.4ghz with 2.2/2.3ghz being the norm. Thats currently a bang for the buck cpu @ $60. The tbred b xp1700 have all but disappeared (except at ebay).

Thanks for the reply! Do you think I have a chance of getting an XP2100 to 2.3/2.3 with my Kingston PC2700 RAM?

If I decide to keep the ram, would I be better off just running the XP2600 at stock clock?

Mahalo!
