AMD Temp Readings?

So normally an Intel guy. I have built a dedicated GPU Boxen running an AMD Phenom II 940 (Black Edition). RealTemp is only for Intel CPUs and CoreTemp gives me a number, but their website doesn't really explain what that number is. There is (at least I can't find it) a concept of TJMax so I'm not sure how high I can take the number that CoreTemp gives me.

Are there any other Temperature Reading Programs like RealTemp for AMD?
For those of you that use AMD and CoreTemp, what does the number mean. What is the maximum number for the AMD PII 940?
 
I believe AMD Overdrive has a temperature monitoring feature. I can't really help you with this though, since I'm also not familiar with AMD temperature monitoring.

amd doesnt use a tjmax like intel does on their processors.. they have a strict max temp built into the processors.. and i believe the max temp for the phenom II's is some where in the 75-80C range.. but im not at home right now so i dont have any of my url sources available to me right now.. but when i get home ill be able to post what the exact number is..
 
CoreTemp 99.4 is showing 42. I've got the PII 940 OC'd to 3.2. Working my way up the multipliers :)
 
Install AMD Overdrive. It's got lots of features, but it will definitely show you all core temperatures. I see two Core temperatures in SpeedFan 4.37, which seem to correspond to cores 0/1 and 2/3. I see one core temperature in CoreTemp 99.3, but it also matches. I'm currently at 57-58C while running BOINC.

I'm glad to see your OC progress with stock HSF. I haven't touched either of my Phenom IIs yet, but I should be able to devote some time to it soon.

I'm able to get 3.5GHz on stock voltage. I cannot boot at 3.6 (18 multplier). So 3.5 on stock voltage and stock HSF is perfectly fine with me. I'll probalby just leave it as is. The box will be doing WCG and F@H GPU2 (when the cards arrive in a couple of hours :D )
 
I have used speedfan for my system too, it is also able to pull temps for all of the gpu's as well and if you want to get really into it you can use samurize to display them all in the background. But it's still nice to have one program that can do all your temps imho.
 
Running a pos lappy these days so it's been awhile that I've cared to monitor - used to use Crystal something or other (monitor I think). It was an excellent monitor (and ran fine on my AMD x64 lappy).

I'm able to get 3.5GHz on stock voltage. I cannot boot at 3.6 (18 multplier). So 3.5 on stock voltage and stock HSF is perfectly fine with me. I'll probalby just leave it as is. The box will be doing WCG and F@H GPU2 (when the cards arrive in a couple of hours :D )

check for different bios.. i had to get an early adapted phenom II bios for my biostar Tforce 780G m2+.. its not suppose to support the 125w 940 but it can as long as it has a heatsink on the pwms.. but they specificly made a bios that locks the board to not support anything over 95w.. so i did some searching and found an early version of the phenom II bios before they put the 95w limit on.. though they were way to early and use the completely wrong voltages.. but thats easy to manually set and its running like a charm.. its quite possible the msi k9a2 is the same way.. look for a bios either in december or january.. december was the month amd released all the information to board makers to get bios setup for the phenom II
 
I'll give that a try. I'm on the stock HSF right now and it'll be a couple of weeks until Thermalright comes out with the brackets for the AXP-140. When that comes out, I'll try for higher clocks. 3.5GHz is ok with me considering I am on stock voltage and stock HSF and my temps are 45.
 
I believe the latest 1.6 BIOS doesn't fully support the Phenom II. I've heard the 174 beta BIOS is pretty solid, but I haven't tried it yet. You can get it here.

I'm actually still on 1.4, but I'm hoping 1.7 is officially released soon. Weirdly, there's a new BIOS out for the low-end K9A2 CF board, so I'm going to try to OC that system first. I plan to stick to stock voltage/HSF for now anyway, unless it's really limiting.
 
Thanks for that. I'll pull it down, but want to wait on using it after I get a better HSF
