AMD or P4 in gaming?

Well my buddy here thinks that AMD is better than a P4 when it comes to gaming. I think the opposite. What do you guys think out there? If it was gigahertz to gigahertz, what would it come down to? In AMD we are talking about the "XP"s and P4 we are talking about the "C" 800fsb version. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd say the P4s overall, but slightly. There are some games where the P4 will show a huge lead (like with Quake 3) but then that gap is reduced to nothing in other games.

amd's for gaming, and thats coming from an intel guy. but intels are better at encoding and number crunching apps. id still go with the intel.

It is pretty much accepted even by intel fan boys that Athlon 64s are superior to P4 in gaming.

We're not talking about the Athlon 64, only Athlon XP vs. Pentium 4 C, as indicated by the OP's post.

yeah the AMD 64s kick ass if the p4 4ghz will hurry up and come AMD will have a bit of a problem on there hands although I can see it now pentium 4 4ghz just released and a week later FX-55 well there goes the small lead pentium did have

You really can't compare the XPs vs the C Class P4s. That one is very clear. The P4 will run circles around the XPs.

What I don't understand is the constant arguing over here is faster for gaming? If you take the high end systems of both...run the same OS, and game, at the same settings...your performance may differ buy a couple of frames at each setting level, etc. Many mags have shown that some games run slightly better on a P4, while others are slightly better on the A64. So my opinion is who cares...both are awesome.
