Im leaning towards the Intel.

I want to know one thing can those optical drives burn CD's and such?


Tell me what one and why.

The comp will be used for video editing and that nature and buring cds with a lil side to side gaming.
 
This is just a warning, i think that premium desktop is only a wireless mouse and a wired keyboard. Just a heads-up, cuz I had it and definitely returned it. Make sure it says "wireless keyboard" somewhere.
 
The AMD box will do well enough encoding vids, but the P4 shines at it. If only it were a Northwood instead of a Prescott...

I do vid work myself, I'd probably still get the AMD system unless my vid encoding speed paid the bills. It consumes less power, produces less heat... better upgrade possibilities...

I'll readily admit I skimmed over most of the specs, its too broken up.
 
Actually, in your particular case, I'd recommend the AMD Athlon64 system over the particular Intel system on your list. You see, Acer Labs (ALi) was never renowned for bug-free, stable chipsets to begin with. Add to that the ALi chipset on your listed Intel-based system can only run DDR memory in single-channel, which at best provides only half the memory bandwidth that's required for the P4 to really shine. Couple that with the less-than-stellar Prescott-core P4, and you'll end up with a setup can run most apps as sluggishly as or slower than an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ system does on an nForce2-based mobo with dual-channel disabled.

IMHO, a Socket 478 Intel P4 system with an 800MHz FSB deserves nothing less than an Intel 865PE chipset-based mobo.
 
I agree with Eagle - I have to recommend the AMD setup because the motherboard spec'd in the Intel setup sports an inferior chipset. If you are getting Intel, buy either the i865 or i875.
 
get a 3.0C, those OC a lot faster and run cooler. The 1mb cache doesnt have anything over the 512k btw, and is sometimes worse. If you can hit 3.6-3.7ghz on a 3.0C, you would totaly rape that AMD rig. :D

Well duh. But if you OC the AMD rig, you'd beat the hell out of the stock 3.0C, too.

Hell, I'd be willing to buy the 533MHz Prescott and OC that joint.

im sorry dude, but that post layout is horrible, so i cleaned it up so people can read it without scrolling down 4 screens...

intel system
1) RAM, you get what you pay for if you buy cheap ram.
2) modem, is a modem really necessary?
3) motherboard, that board is shit, get a different one, preferably i875 chipset.
4) harddrive, hitachi 160gb sata 7200rpm 8mb...under $100 from newegg.

amd system
1) Harddrives, once again consider the hitachi's
2) RAM, same comment as in the intel system...
3) modem, same comment as the intel system...
4) video card, the 9800pro like you have in the intel system is a better card.
