Hello all
I saw this awesome forum and I thought I would join

I had a minor question regarding using AMD/ATi as my GPU and the nVidia card as the Physx processing unit, is this possible under windows 7?

The problem is I have a Asus P7P55D-E premium motherboard which is a Socket 1156 (core i7 870 as processor) and I heard about the limitations. It says 16x single and 8x/8x SLI/Crossfire.

I'm getting a HD 5970 Toxic 4GB and using an 8600 GT as the physx processor. Please tell me if you can do this without taking a hit to the PCI-E multipliers. I may not even bother with the 8600 GT but I got plenty of space and cooling ;)

If you only have 2 x16 slots then yes the lanes will divide to 8/8.
 
The 5970 will lose a little performance in an 8x slot, but not much. The 8600GT, however, is not worth bothering with for PhysX. Minimum for PhysX really should be 8800GT/9800GT/GTS240. You would be better off not running the 8600GT.
 
Not to mention the hoops you'll have to jump through just to enable hardware PhysX in a hybrid GPU environment. All thanks to nVidia and their douche-bag ways.

It's not that hard with the soft mod, and I concur on the Nvidia's d-bag ways.
 
why bother? honestly is there any game that you are actually going to enjoy using physx with?
 
i have this board in my daughters pc if you want more lanes get the P7H57D-V EVO with a lynnfield cpu you will have the lanes you need the P55 cant use lynnfields onboard pcie controller from what ive seen between the 2 boards that i have here. plus the p55 slows down the pcie bus if you use the sata 3 and usb3 look in the manual it states that. http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss171/HisSvt2/pciebus.jpg

Sacred 2 is about the only game I can remember using it for anything of interest. Spells look like crap without it.
