So I figured it was time to get a little more juice out of my system. I've had it for a while, and didn't wanna start ocing it right when I purchased it. I have never really looked at the temps on it until now when I decided to oc it.

Running stock and at full load with 2 processes of prime running I'm hitting 60+ Celsius (140F). Looking at speedfan I'm confused it has a core reading that is significantly lower than the temps shown by the apps as being my cpu. What is that internal temp that 100+ what the heck is all I can ask.

Any help is appreciated thanks.

System
AM2 4200x2, M2N32-SLI Deluxe, OCZ PC6400, 8800GT.

Same chip I used to have.

What heatsink are you using? What TIM?

I'll admit that temp looks like a load temp on the stock amd heatsink. The Vcore is a tad high (stock it can run at 1.35) but that .04 isn't enough create that much heat.

Reseat HeatSink, maybe some new TIM?

We need to know what heatsink you are using?
Do you have proper airflow in your case?

It's stock heatsink, but using arctic silver.

Friend says his cpu runs much cooler than this. But if this looks normal for the 4200 then I guess I'm alright.

Also I do have 4 case fans. two intake two exhaust, and cables are tied up as much as possible to keep em outta the way.

That's pretty warm, I just built a Grandmother PC with a 5200+ Brisbane and it runs, at full load, stock (2.7GHz) at 46C

Thats a little warm. My overclocked 4400 + at 2809mhz idles at 27 atm, loads around 36. that is with a scythe ninja and 7 120 mm fans though...

Stock voltage for your cpu is 1.35, you have it at 1.39 and it isnt even OC'd, turn the voltage down to stock and that should help get rid of a little heat.

your cpu should be in the range of 1.30 - 1.35max anywhere between those is good for stock, my 4800 runs 1.328 - 1.344 without any problems and heat, but I have noticed with my x2's which are socket 939 that even the slightest of voltage increase to them seems to add a whack of heat.

Try using Core Temp:

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

It's a little less confusing than Speedfan and shows the temperatures of both cores. It looks like you have a 89W cpu, so it should run hotter than the newer 65W versions. The Brisbane's also run cooler since they are 65W/65nm.

For reference, I have a 65W 3800+ Windsor that runs at 60C full load @ 1.4V oc'ed to 3ghz. At 1.25V oc'ed to 2.9ghz, my cpu load temp is 50C. This is using a Thermalright XP-90 with a slow 92mm fan in a matx case with 2 60mm exhaust fans and 1 80mm intake. So I'd say that while 60C is on the warm side, it's within the ballpark of what is reasonable, given that you're using a stock AMD HSF. A good HSF could probably drop your load temps by 10C.

Wow just noticed that it shows it running at 1.39v. It's set to stock voltage, even AIbooster is showing 1.35 in the screen shot. I'll manually set it to 1.35v when I get home and see what I can do. At my buddies shop atm, gonna pick up a better heatsink from him. He has 5000+ Black editions in. Might pick one up, we'll see.

So I went into the bios and manually changed the core voltage to 1.35, but monitoring software still sees 1.39v. Went back into the bios and changed the setting to 1.325 and now it is displayed as 1.36 in the bios.

My question now is which do I believe? My bios settings or the softwares indication.

I have the exact same CPU and Motherboard as you (confirmed mine with your pics) along with stock heatsink/fan and artic silver 5. My temps are 34*C mobo, 34-36*C CPU (idle to web useage), and up to 38*C mobo & 49*C CPU under 100% load. 71*F ambient with all case fans at ~72% power. Also for reference my temps are up to 5*C hotter in the summer. My vcore is the same as in your screenshot.

I have 120mm front intake fan, 120mm side intake (around 40% positioned at the gpu level), 120mm quiet PSU, top 80mm exhaust, rear 80mm exhaust.

You dont have your pc in one of those desk drawers or anything right? I actually have mine laying on carpet (usually not recommended) about 1 foot away from the wall. It is possible that you put too much or too little thermal paste on the cpu. Considering the temps for your motherboard I would assume your ambient/case temps should only push the cpu up to around 47*C at most (under 20% load).

Your motherboard can overvolt a little, so if you set it at 1.35, then in actual fact 1.39 maybe going into the cpu, I have my cpu set @ 1.325 and it overvolts to 1.344 idle but when the pc is being used for gaming the voltage drops to 1.328, even tho its set at 1.325vs in the bios.

Basically set it to between 1.30 -1.35v in your bios and start working your way down so that your monitoring programs show you 1.35 or lower whilst idle, if its stable at that level then your all good.

Thanks a lot for your replies. I've lowered the vcore to 1.3125 (something like that) in bios, and monitor now shows 1.34 in both the bios and software. Temps have dropped. Now full load at 57C max. Idle down to 41.

But I now have a 5000+ black edition, and new heatsink. time to shut down and see what that can do for me.

And yes with that motherboard at 1.35 vcore will say 1.39 in CPUz. I dont know which is right. Edit: nvm probably just over voltage like above.

I just noticed that your HT link says 200MHz and mines says 1000MHz. Your HTT link multi should be 5x in the bios.
