Almost done. Waiting on a red cold cathode fan so I can rip the cathode off and use it behind the star. Also need to polish that red acrylic behind the star, I sanded it but now I want it shiny again cuz LED's dont cast light well in red acrylic.

Looks nice man. I'm guessing thats the front, so where are your CD-ROMS? Did you cut out the whole star/wings/devil thing? It certainly looks awesome.

thats the backside. Cdrom comes out of the top.

Yes i cut it with a scroll saw.......and there's a rustic pearl added to the clearcoat on top of the black which gives it the diff color.
 
Is that thing built into a notebook binder? Kinda looks like it from that pic.

its just plain old aluminum and I tapped each end, then painted them with pearl over black but you can't really tell.

Things got delayed a little yesterday cuz WHO KNEW you couldn't put as many coats of paint on the cdrom tray as you want.........then mount it vertically..........then expect it to work :D

The weight of the paint prevents the tray from opening???? No, I wouldnt have guessed that. Slot loaders are cool.

i think he meant the layers of paint sorta jammed the tray from closing/opening properly or something

yea, is there such thing as a really thin slot loader?... or just a really thin cd drive?... if so, where can i buy one?

Putting too many layers on makes the cd touch the surface of the tray easier thus making added noise when it spins up. .........the motor in that thing sucks anyway, I wonder if I could replace it with something more powerful.
