Setup:
Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 (SB700 southbridge)
SuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8
Norco 4224
5x2TB, 3x1.5TB, 2x64GB (SSD in RAID1)

Formerly, system was working with two rows of Norco filled and running over SAS to SASLP card ports on WHSv1 running off a 500GB HDD. Two drives were also connected over SATA to the motherboard. Total drives were ten and worked properly.

Currently, system works fine with 2x64GB SSD in RAID1 on the SB700 and 6xHDD on the SASLP. However, if I connect more than six drives to the Norco rows (to the SASLP card) then the RAID1 no longer appears in the BIOS as a drive to boot from. I can however add another drive to the motherboard onboard, while leaving the SASLP to only six drives, and still see the RAID1 to boot from.

Basically:
Worked-8xHDD on SASLP, 2xHDD AHCI on SB700
Works-6xHDD on SASLP, 1xHDD JBOD on SB700, 2xSDD RAID1 on SB700
Doesn't Work-7/8xHDD on SASLP, 2xSSD RAID1 on SB700

I'm not understanding what is happening here... I could use ten drives before with the same hardware and now it just disappears. Is the RAID using up some lanes that I need? I've verified that each of the two remaining Norco ports function properly and all eight ports on the Norco detect drives and all six SB700 ports detect drives properly.

I'm pretty sure the SASLP firmware and driver are both up to date.

Any ideas? I'm going nuts!
 
mmmkay. So I got all the drives to detect. 6 on the SASLP, RAID1 on SB700, 3xHDD over 8087 reverse cable from the Norco backplane.

Still not able to get the card to take more than 8 drives with the RAID1 enabled.

Alright, for anyone that has this setup in the future, here's the issue (or at least what I think was the issue):

The max number of entries which could be selected under the BIOS for a HDD boot device was eight (including the "Add-In Card" or whatever was on there that would never leave). When I populated the list of drives beyond six the RAID was force off that list (into where I have no idea). After much tinkering, I discovered the "INT 13h" enable/disable option in the SASLP-MV8 menu (press Ctrl+M the card is posting). Setting this option will disable the appearance of the drives connected to the SASLP card in the BIOS boot menu. Thus, you are left with only the onboard devices to set as your boot device HDDs. The drives should still (or at least they have in my case) detect within the operating system.

Hope this saves someone about three days of frustration in the future!
