I don't have a horrible algae problem yet but can i use car coolant [ethelyne glycol] or will it melt plexiglass, lexan, vinyl, and the parts on my d5 pump?

I am using Pentosin, which is car coolant, ethylene glycol based.. I am pretty sure it's safe... I know others use pure glycol and distilled h2o also...
 
If you had taken 5 minutes to read up on coolants you would see that Antifreeze is one of the most commonly used additives.

Actually, most likely not. You are prolly using different metals in your loops, and this will lead to corrosion. It doesn't make sense not to use some sort of additive.

The most common additives are ethelyne glycol based, so yes, that would be safe.
 
If you choose to not use some form of anti-growth additive make sure you are using the Ethylene Glycol based antifreeze type instead of the Propylene Glycol (Low Tox) type. I can personally testify that the low tox type does NOT prevent growth.
 
I did see it a lot but i just wanted to make sure thats one expensive pump and how much coolant for 1/2 gallon of water and i wanted the corrosion protection and its meant to help the pump's[on a car] lubrication so my pump will last longer :D
