Anyone have any experience with this card? I like the high clock speed and the 256MB, and I can get it from 'egg for $144 (shipping/tax incl). That is right about the pricepoint I am looking for.

I just need a card to last me the 6-8 months (probably more like 12, but think positive) while I get my rig up to socket 939 capability. Once I have a socket 939 based board and CPU up and running, I'll get a really good graphics card.

Until then, would thie 5700Q be an acceptable interim for Doom3/Farcry at medium settings?

It should do alright. Just don't exect any wonders though. If you could fork out like 40 more bucks or so I'd say go with the 5900xt. Not only are they pretty decent cards, but you can flash them to 5900 or even 5950 speeds. that'd be about 169 off newegg. That's what I think anyways
 
It's got 8 pipelines though, and basically 5900/ 5950 core to it. So it really is just an underclocked 5900, and a 5900 kicks the 5700 in the butt. The 5700 ultra is yes 950 mhz or so on the ram, but it's only got 4 pipelines, and a 128bit memory bus, while the 59xx series has the 256bit, so it'll play pretty decent, and better than the 5700 series
 
So if i can oc the 5700 to 5900 speeds, I should have a reasonable card for the time being?

Maybe I should look into some better cooling for it too, depending on how far I have to overclock to get reasonable preformance out of it.
 
not really for the oc, because it's runnning on a whole different set of chipsets and stuff like that, so it won't compare to the speeds that a stock 5900xt will do. Besides, that card can play doom 3 at high quality reasonably well. I play though at 8x6 and 4x/ 8x ith all the goodies on fine. So it is a great card for the money
 
Try buying used. You could probably get a 9700/9800Pro for that price, or a 5900XT.
