AIW 9800 problems?

Hello, i've got an ati all in wonder 9800 pro. Recently, it has been freezing in 3d games. The more intense the game is (higher graphics), such as farcry, BF2, etc. the shorter the time is until it freezes (maybe 30 minutes). Less intensive games, such as age of empires, takes at least an hour before it freezes. When it freezes, the screen just freezes at whatever frame its on, there is no sound, and i'm forced to do a hard restart. I posted my problem on another forum, and someone said to set, in catalyst, the agp speed to 4x, and disabling fast write. I did so, and now when i run age of empires, i get a blank blue screen, which restarts after a few minutes. I reset those settings that i changed, and i still get the blue screen. My motherboard is an MSI k8n neo Platinum, with an A64, 2800+ in it. I changed the northbridge heatsink to one with a fan. A more intelligent person PMed me saying not to do those settings in catalyst, as it might permanently break your card, but he was too late. He said to change the northbridge back to the stock heatsink, as he thought the northbridge might've overheated to damaging measures. I switched it back to the stock one, but all of the problems still persist. Now i'm posting my problem here. Is my video card dead? What about my mobo?

My original suspician was something software related, more specifically, something opengl, directx, related, and such, but i don't think thats the problem anymore.
 
try incresing bios votages alittle, change your agp aperture to 128 or 64, try using the PCI latency tool or ATitool and set your pci latency to 64 or 128.

hows your power suppy and system temps.......
 
i've got an antec sonata case, with it's 380W power supply, i don't think thats the problem.
after it freezes and i restart, the cpu temp is around 42-45 degrees, with a silent boost k8 on it. the system temp is a little cooler. I'll try those latency and aperture settings right now.
 
It sounds like an AGP problem. I just had this not too long ago...at least it seems very similar.

Go into your Ati control panel under Smartgart and check to see if the AGP is working.

If it's not, then check your motherboard's website for chipset Smartgart/agp drivers. That should fix it.
 
Ooh! Another opportunity to tell my quirky hard drive story! Excellent!
I once had a hard drive, a Seagate to be exact. I upgraded all my schnizzle in my cazizzle, except for that hard drive. Before I'd upgraded, it had been crashing an awful lot while playing games, but simple games would take hours to crash whereas complex ones took a few minutes.
I thought to myself, "Hmm...doing the same thing, only part not changed was...the hard drive!". So I did a check of it using Seagate's SeaTools or whatever the McHell it is, and discovered that it had bad sectors or some such thing as that.
Anyway...
Every time I played a game, and ran out of RAM, and a part of the page-file was then used, the game would crash as it tried to write/read from the bad sectors of the hard drive, which is where the page-file was stored, coincidentally.
Therefore, simple games took longer to fill up the page-file, hence taking longer to crash.
One hard drive purchase later, and can game for hours on end. Woohoo!
