So I have a B85M-G43 motherboard with i5 processor with 32gb of ram. I have 4 1 tb hard drives in the box, one with server 2012, one with windows 7, one with my family pictures and 1 configure for my ESXi 5.5 that I have installed on my USB stick. I have another box that I am switching over as my primary box, so want to utilize the storage of the windows 7 and server 2012 hard drive. I use the esxi just for testing, and labbing. Would it be easiest to setup a NAS vm in vSphere, and then map it to my primary box to backup and store files, or what would be the best route for me to take? Open to suggestions.
 
Best route to take it up to you. What are you wanting to with the ESXi server?
 
Probably just wants to learn and play with it.

If that's the case, I would just boot ESXi via USB, connect the HDD via your regular SATA cable and call it a day, do note though that running more than four VMs might result in performance issues and you'd want to switch to RAID or SSDs
 
Well I already have it set up to boot ESXi 5.5 from USB. But if I want it to boot to ESXi and stay on at all times, how can I access my other 3 drives from my other PC in order to pull files off/on of them?
