Ok, I have a BFG 6800GT AGP. I want to move to an nforce 4 motherboard. Obviously, I will need to get a pci vid card to do this.

My question is, how much do you guys/girls think I could sell this agp card for and will that selling price get me a comparible pci vid card?

my other option is to just stick with what I have and wait for a year or so before going with an SLI system.

that sucks man, im in the same boat...i totally want an nF4 board, but its not worth it to me, since you will probably have to downgrade a little bit...if you get a comparable card, let us know, i might do the same.

Good luck

May I ask why? Nforce 4 is the same as Nforce 3 but it can do sli. If you are not going SLI just stick with AGP until you are actually going to upgrade your card to something newer.
if you do upgrade and buy smae vid card you will see 0 fps increase, just a waiste of money.

The other thing is, I have the dfi nf3 ultra-d board and it has it's issues.

Let me ask you this. Would you suggest instead of purchasing an nforce4 and a new vid card, instead, purchasing a raptor and maybe some ocz?

The thing is, I have someone who wants to buy my current system (minus the vid card). The price I sold it to him for is either going to get me into an nForce4 system, or the exact same system I have now but, with a better harddrive and ram.

Sorry have tio edit stupid mac at school sucks at refreshing.
Anyway, it depends f you are planning on buying a x1800 or 7800 series any time soon, if not i would sya yes you should buy an AGP board and buy some ocz or corsair ram, and then again it would depend of what you are using your pc for.

I'm not planning on purchasing x1800 or 7800 series anytime soon. (to rich for my blood)
I game and do web dev.

yea, bump it up to at least 1gb, you can get 2gb if you play bf2, is a memory hog, but in most other newer ganes you will only get 1-3 more fps on 2gb. If you do go 2gb try to get 2x1024mb, AMD's memory controller sucks at handling 4x512 double sided.

Have you ever seen a stable 4x512 configuration running in real life? I know I haven't.

That worked on old Tyan boards with registered RAM and ECC but not with this cheap double sided RAM. Oh well I do still prefer cheap. :D

Id wait (i am waiting actually). Wait for M2 and (presumably) nforce 5. Makes more sence since M2 will apparently be around a long time.

so, I've decided that I'll get a raptor and a gig of ocz. I'll stick with nf3 and my current agp for a while. I guess one of the only reasons I really wanted nf4 was because I heard they oc better, not that my current oc is bad by any means.

Double sided? If so you are one lucky SOB :p

I had no such luck on either of my AMD64 boards.

Here's my recommended upgrade path:

Move to THIS mobo for $69 bucks. Keep your AGP card and memory. When you're ready, upgrade to a PCI-e card using the PCI-e slot on the board. When socket M2 comes out look for a decent Crossfire or SLI board depending on who you went with when you bought your pcie card, along with a quad core M2 proc and new memory. Finally, add the second pcie card to complete the package.

I agree with yevaud completely...

...but did you say quad-core?

What do you have for a monitor? If you are like me and you have a 19inch LCD (or smaller) that can't do more than 1280*1024 - I'd say wait. I can play most everything maxed out with plenty of AF and FSAA. For the last five years or so - every new video card purchase lead to bumping up the resolution and or detail settings on the games I was playing. Now that I've reached the max - all I can do now is save up for a big ass widescreen monitor. As for what you might get for your AGP video card - look at what they sell for now, subtract a little. Track a few auctions on Ebay and see what they are selling for.

What he said. Best thing to do if you wanna keep that card!

Yes it is doublesided, it is at 2T though, i get about 3 more fps in most games, and about 30 more fps in bf2
