AGP Aperture Size

I'm running a machine with a P4 2.8@3.2, 1 GB memory and a 6800GT card.

Yesterday, I noticed my AGP aperture was set to 256MB, so I changed it to 128 just to test. I ran 3dmark05 (Yeah, I know, not the best test platform) and my score jumped from 3802 to 4550-something..

Now, my question is this - Will this change affect my system performance, and is there a way to know what AGP Aperture size I should use for my system?
 
The AGP aperture size is so the pc knows what address ranges to reserve for talking to the vid card. If you had it at 256 and you only have a 128mb card then that might explain the drop in performance, but if youve got a 256 card then 256 should be the right setting. How does it play in games? If its better with the lower setting id stick with it, it wont do any harm, and if you find yourself getting crap frame rates in something then you can always try sticking it back up.
 
My card has 256MB memory, but I haven't had time to run any fraps checks or anything similar to that since I had to go to work :)

I'll check if it's running everything fine with these settings, and if that's the case, keep it on 128.. Thanks for the answer!
 
Just for the hell of it oneday, I ran these benches: Doom3, Halo, 3dMark03, 05, and PCMark04 at all AGP sizes (64, 128, 256, 512, and 1gig) to see how it effected benchmarks and game preforance. I'm not going to list all the marks, but 64 and 128 gave me the best preforance for all benchmarks and games. 256 and 512 was only a slight decrease, while 1gig brought scores down by a huge margin. I currently use 128 as this was the highest performer.

This takes a long time to do, but for me it was necessary to know what setting my rig worked best at. My card is also 256.
