This seems like the type of question that has come up many times before, but after 30 mins of googling I'm not finding much info.

What would the performance of running a dedicated ageia card be vs a dedicated GPU? Someone mentioned that the Ageia card is still superior until you get into the geforce 2xx range of cards. And are the Ageia cards still supported in nvidias drivers?

If I remember correctly, the Ageia PPU is about the same as an 8400GS... which is horrible for anything but the first couple of PhysX enabled games.

The G92 based 8800/9800/GTS250 are way faster.

If you are running an ATI card and want PhysX, a G92 card is good for the 4850/4870. I would probably up it to a GTX260 for the 5850/5870 for optimal performance.

The Ageia PPU is no longer supported in the newer Nvidia drivers.

Scratch the Ageia card then.

I'm running 2x GTX 460s in SLI. While I know they are far beyond capable in tue physx department, I want to keep them to strictly graphics processing and grab a dedicated PhysX card. But it also has to be at an economical price.

The card still works if you use these drivers for it:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_8.09.04_whql.html

It only supports up to version 2.8.1 of the PhysX engine, but at this point that still includes the vast majority of PhysX titles currently on the market.

There is no point if you're already running an Nvidia card, but it can still be of use in a select few games if you are using ATI/AMD.

Hmm I thought it was a little better than that...
I will try to find the link after work.

you can still use the agiea ppu but for the older stuff. mirrors edge, ut3, there was a site like physx.org that listed all the games and what supported the ppu. But i cant find it.

That is a nice list!

The only game I have right now with PhysX is UT3 I believe haha - so maybe my PPU is not completely useless just yet
