After I got my Athlon 64 3800+ (2.4 GHz) to 2.6 GHz i actually get a LOWER score in AquaMark3. Both on my Video Card and my CPU.

Meanwhile, my SuperPi calc's are done faster.

Is this normal? Going from 200 * 12 too 218 * 12 caused me a LOWER score?

I did have to put a divider on my ram, but is the difference that big? Is somethign wrong?

that is not a huge OC and if you ram is running slower than it could be the difference.. .what is the score difference?

your ram cannot run at 218??

Well.. I jsut went from the 266 too 333 on my memory and my Score shot up by about 1100 marks.

And no, apperantly, my memory could not run at 218. They would cause an unstable overclock. Worked fine though afte the divider.

It may have been I had too tight of timings at 2-2-2-6 but I slacked them to 2.5-3-3-6 and it didn't seem to help.

I am, in all honesty, probly doing something wrong in relation to the ram. So assume nothing please :)

Yeah, running your ram at DDR266 will have a HUGE impact on your score, as... well, you're crippling your system.

The DDR333 setting will run your RAM at 83% of your FSB. Can you boost your FSB up to 230 and run your RAM at the timings you had to begin with (2-2-2-6).

This should run your RAM at about 190mhz (stock is 200 or DDR400). If you could post at 240 FSB you would have the IDEAL oc. Stock RAM frequency and a hefty OC.

I'll give it a go and see if I can't do that. Thanks mate

EDIT:

I jsut relized, 240 * 12 is a bit over 2.8 GHz... That can't be right. You mean 240 on 11?

You could always try for 2.8. Its not too likely on stock volts, but within the realm of possibility. ;)

Ha. Im almost on 1.5 VCore but yea, its the stock HSF that bothers me ;)

Wouldnt a higher core with a lower mult net better results?

Sorry, yeah 240 on 11, missed that there :). As I said, it's the IDEAL overclock.

Aha, Wait...

It's all about mhz. The higher your clock speed the better your performance will be, so long as your RAM is constant.

so if I can hit 2.6 GHz or so on a lower multiplier it would be better then 2.6 GHz on a higher multiplier, as the core would be faster overall.

I see. Well, Im pumping 2.7 VDimm and JUST under 1.5 VCore and it is stable... I suppose I will drop the Mult and tinker with it from there... If I can't hit 2.6 GHz though, then it wouldn't really be worth it, as I would lose memory preformance :(

Off I go!

No, the core will be the same speed. Same speed, same performance.

Your RAM will be running faster. THAT will help your performance.

If you need to put a higher RAM divider on, to get your FSB up, you're negating the effects of running your RAM at a higher frequency.

your right if you can figure out what multiplier you need to get your ram at 200mhz, and the cpu at the speed you want, you should be good to go.

Well. I started from the ground up. The CORRECT way now. I acheived MUCH better results.

See screenie for stable results:

Cpu at 220 x 12
Ram at 220 ( DDR 440)
HTT at 3x

WAY better then my old OC. Idels at 38c and is just at 50c on Prime95 lvl 3 test.

I got ~ +2000 marks on AQ3 on the CPU alone and it boosted my Video Score a tiny bit.

What do youall think now? Better then before, yes?

Not too bad, you could probably change the HT to 4 even though it will only have a negligible increase.

220 * 3 would be 660, which is the current HT on my system now, (correct me if I'm wrong, as HT is rather confusing.) So, 220 * 4 would be 880. SInce it isn't at, near, or over 1000 it would be no less stable then this, yes?

What would be the benifits of doing this increse? What does the HT affect really?

the HT link affects how fast your CPU can communicate with your NB. The NB influences pretty much all of the other busses and parts connected to your computer.

Basically, the faster this speed, the more things can communicate at a better speed.

The thing is, nothing can saturate the HT bus. You could be stressing your GPU, like 3 PCI cards and 6 HDs at once and you'd just start to fill it all up :).

Sure, go ahead, boost it to 4x, it wont make a difference at all.

Rofl, if it won't make a difference at all then it seems a moot point to have it at anything but the absolutly lowest needed. Though I understand the 3 mult. for OC'ing, as you need to keep it under 1000MHz for stability.

edit:
went ahead and put it up to 4x for a 880 HT. All seems well... :)

Thanks all for the help. I've turned this PC into a monster I'm proud of :)
