I've currently got one of these:

I'm pretty happy with it, fastest card I've ever had, etc.

The thought crossed my mind to ebay my current card and upgrade to this, but I'm curious if it's actually that much better. Yeah I know they're both essentially ultra idort mode retarded in terms of over-power, but that aside, is the Asus objectively better in a measurable way than the XFX?
 
There's an [H] article on this card and a few on other sites. Yes it's a little faster, but unless you have a money printing machine I'd strongly advise against it. If you want more oomph I'd suggest looking into a dual or triple gtx 480 setup. SLI seems to be scaling significantly better than Xfire at the moment.
 
Wait 2 months and you will be able to buy another 5970 for around $400 when Southern Islands is announced.

One other thing, are there any real benefits (in the sense of, using the same brand of shampoo and conditioner together) with using a motherboard with nvidia chipset along with an nvidia card? Or are we past that?

Right now I've got an EVGA e762. If I sold my 5970 and went quad GTX 480, would that be better than 2x5970's? Would I even notice the difference?

As far as I know, all issues with mixing a chipset from one manufacturer with a video card from another are a thing of the past.

Quad 480s would be obscene. Three 480s will outperform 2x5970s; hell I think two of them might even do that. Xfire scaling is decent with just one extra card, mediocre at best with two...and pretty insignificant beyond that. SLI on the other hand...just look at some reviews of 480s in SLI.
 
Hrm.

And nVidia's new screen spanning technology's every bit as good as Eyefinity? (That's the whole reason I went this route)
 
As per an article right here on [H]...yes. Also take note in the last section where it talks about how the 480s in SLI are way faster than the 5870 in crossfire (a configuration similar to the single 5970, actually a bit faster!)
