Advice on CRT purchase

I think the best setting for text on a CRT is lower resolution, high refresh rate. So, 1280x960 or 1440x1080 on a 19". The text will be big enough to not notice the blurriness. Then just play games at whatever setting you want to.
 
I briefly used the NEC version of the 2070. It definitely had a blur beyond the difference between CRT and LCD. Really unacceptable actually. And I remember reading an old review that also noted its blurriness versus other CRTs. And then much later I also read folks apparently able to resolve this with the focus controls, which makes sense. Hard to believe NEC/Mitsubishi would purposefully put out a high end CRT with such a major flaw by design. Much easier to believe this was a manufacturing issue.

Anyway, if it's sharp at 60 Hz, then possibly you are just noting the difference between LCD and CRT. I can't say. However, given that model's track record, I'd be highly suspicious...
