I currently have 2 MSI 6990 cards... they are hot and loud, but still work great.

Is it worth replacing the heatsink/fan on these or should I sell and replace them altogether?

How long will they be viable for 1080p gaming?

And last, what are they selling for these days (and does anyone want to buy)?

Thanks for any advice offered.

The cards' value exceeds the gains you're getting from quadfire due to bad scaling.
You could probably sell both and buy a single card with the profit you make and get higher frame rate.

It's quite literally a free upgrade in terms of performance.
Would have to look at benchmarks to know for sure...

he'll only be able to get around $400 for both of them, based on ebay listings, and he can't buy anything for $400 that's better than what he has. the only aftermarket cooler i'm seeing for the 6990 costs $50, so you'd have to pay $100 to go that route. i would say try to sell them for $400 and take that $100 you would've spent on heatsinks and put it towards a 290X or 780 Ti.

That's your best bet. If you don't mind used, miners are dumping some nice cards right now for cheap. If you go the 290/290x route, get a quality one with a good cooler.

Guess it depends on luck.

A single 6990 is on-par with a 780.
I'd scoop one up for $200 given the opportunity.

Actually it seems closer to the 770/280x, with used 280x's down to $200 on eBay the 6990 @ $200 isn't such a good deal. :/

Thanks for the advice all! I think I will sell them off and get something faster/cooler/QUIETER.

I need to sell off some other components too so I think I can end up with a 290/780 series.
