For those that do not know, these are dynamically adjusting backlight technologies on newer NEC and LG LCD's. Samsung seems to have developed a similar technology as well.

These technologies work by turning down the backlight of your LCD during dark scenes in order to drastically improve contrast ratios. This is why you see LCD's that boast over 1000:1 contrast ratio. LG claims to have LCD's that have up to 3000:1 contrast ratio. This is in DFC mode, only. So why hasn't there been more talk about these contrast-boosting modes?

Apparently these technologies are flawed. With DFC/DVM mode activated, it can be discomforting to watch your backlight flicker from dark to bright as the content on your monitor changes.

LG and Samsung are going to release LCD's later this year, claiming ridiculously high contrast ratios because of these technologies. How many LG / NEC owners do we have that use these technologies, and what are your experiences? Is the change in backlight brightness really annoying, or it is unnoticeable to you?
