Addon PSU time...

Stupid Graphics Cards, using ever more power! My 850w "future proof" PSU doesn't have enough amps, it turns out that a good chunk of power is for a second CPU that I do not have (it's a server PSU, specifically a PC Power and Cooling 850SSI).

Now, a friend found this Ultra Products 325w Power Partner which looks like more oomph than this Thermaltake 250w GPU power supply but is 25w less than this ePower EPS 350w. There's also this 300 watt FSP.

I can only find reviews on the first and last ones. Thoughts? These addon PSUs may not be necessary (hopefully not) if GeForce 9 has lower power requirements, but it may still push my PC Power and Cooling 850w. I emailed the company directly and they said running dual 8800GTX cards (or others of similar draw) on this PSU is not recommended...

I'm curious about this as well. Not only for this power partner, but for Ultra products in general. I've been looking around for a new PSU, and these keep popping up.

Your pcp&c 850 is more than enough for 2 8800gtx's. They just seem to be pushing their 1kw-sr (Which is about $243,197,434 more for them).

It is? I kept getting the impression that it was not...

Each GTX needs dual six-pin PCI-E connectors. This PSU has only two of them, but I could use molex splitters (seeing as I have only two molexes connected to opticals and one to the motherboard) to physically accomplish the task.

This would provide sufficient power then? Their rep told me it would not (marketing BS FTL?)

I'm guessing in the case that it is not enough, I'd just get a nasty alert from nVidia's drivers and/or crashes when I try to load games and whatnot?

A dual 8800GTX system probably uses 600w at maximum...

Christ, I run a GTS and a heavily overclocked quad (202w TDP) on a 500w ultra PSU to no harm.

Yeah man, If you've got an 850watt PC P&C, you can bet nothing will get in its way, unless youre running like 50HDD's/SLI/Quadcore. I'm really thinking that no future GPU will be as much of an energy hog as 2900XT crossfire. That's something I'm sure I could do on my 750watt.
