Adding more storage...

Hi all,

Thinking about adding more storage to my PC. Here's what I've got at the moment:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe with a 40gb and a 120gb IDE drive connected.

I'm thinking about buying an SATA Maxtor DiamondMAX Plus9 120gb drive to add for more storage space - what i need to know is, can I connect IDE drives and SATA drives onto one motherboard - will this work??

TIA,

AH

You have the deluxe version of your motherboard which has an onboard Serial-ATA controller for that hard drive

I have an A7N8X-E DX mb with an S-ATA WD Caviar 120Gb + IDE 60Gb, and it's working fine. Had to tweak around some settings upon installation, but it's all OK now. I don't really remember the jumper settings (I built my computer along with a cousin, and he handled that part) but with trial and errors, it will finally work. ;)

So, it's very a possible setup, but I *think* you'd have to install the OS on the S-ATA hd. Then again, I may be wrong, but from what I've heard, it's the way to do it.
