i kno2w this subject has been beat to death but i really need some help,i have
intel bad axe2 i have 75 gig raptors in raid 1 i want to add a 150gig to this array
what problems will i run into can yhiods be done without loosing data on other drives
if not i have nothing on marvell storage can i gut it there
any help will be greatly appreciated

I think you should look into whether your raid controller supports RAID-1 with three drives. As someone found out in another thread, his controller did not support this. If not, maybe you can add the 150GB raptor as a hot-spare?

Either way, adding a new drive to a RAID-1 array should work perfectly fine without any data loss. After all, its transparent to the OS, which will see the three copies of your data as one.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? And how exactly do you have your current setup configured?

sorry fpr no replay feel alsleep, wanted larger storage ,thought i might put it in marvel as
it does not have anything attached but is set up ion bios,or as back up storage for the drives in raid one, thought i also saw 3 was the magic number fdor speed in raid 1
any suggestionds would bre appreciated as this is one person who readily admits i know little about raid set up

i set them up in raid i b ut rear somewhere else 3 drives seem to give optimin performance,
iam totally new to the wonder full world of raid spent many days looking up defenitions
of raid set up - the courages people et "dummies" dont seem to brouch the subject
just want to get all i can out of this computer my 1st build, but my have bit of my than i can chew here. i would like to thank all the faceless people that have helped learned more here in such a small amount of time right now have battery pulled from bios after
installing seasonis psu, jcked my settings back now nothing, if i get this mobo back will swap it out for new one will have brand new bad axe2 for sale.

From your posts, I assume that English is not your native tongue?

Anyways, if you have two 75GB raptors in RAID 1 then you have a total of 75GB available to your computer. If you add another drive in RAID 1 (even if it is larger) you will still only have 75GB available. This is because RAID 1 is mirroring for redundancy. This means that the same data is written to all the drives in case one drive dies.

If you want more storage space, then you don't want RAID 1.

If you have 150GB available to your computer with your existing two 75GB drives, then you are running RAID 0 and not RAID 1. And while you might be able to add the 150GB drive to the array (I doubt it but you might be able to) then you would only use 75GB of the space to give you a total of 225GB with 75 GB of the new drive going to waste.

Really you should use the drive as a stand alone drive with another drive letter and leave it at that.

sorry about the english i currently have i currently have an intel 975xbx2 board,
the other drives are in raid 1 ,could i put htis drive in marvell storage or do i just start
over as ihave another board of the same type ant help is greatly appreciated

Sure you could add it as a stand alone drive, it doesn't have to participate in the array at all.

That is probably the best way to do it anyways.
