Adding 5870 to loop

Just got a 5870 from ebay. Was planning on doing a whole new rig next year with a dual loop, but jumped on a better card early.

Currently have just my E6600 running at 1.42v @ 3.6ghz with a mcr320 rad with 3 pushing low rpm fans and mcp350 pump with a reservoir in my loop.
Am I ok with temporarily placing a single 5870 into that loop or will my temps get out of hand? What about if I drop the cpu to 1.32v @ 3.3ghz? Any chance of overclocking the card as well?
 
I dont thinkt hey will get out of hand. What are you load temps currently? Id guess that if you didnt overclock the 5870, it would add about maybe 8-10c to the loop while gaming. Id assume your load temps are around 60c with that loop and voltage? If so, Id definitely think you are good to go adding a 5870.

Is your 4890 int he loop currently? 5870 has about the same power usage as a 4890.
 
4890 is not water cooled. Speedfan was reporting my load temps on the cpu cores about 45C after running prime95 for about an hour. I only switched to water-cooling on this about a month ago to get some experience before I do it on an intel i7 + Crossfire or SLI build, first timer.
Just formatted with Win7 last week so I haven't even installed any temp monitoring software. Wasn't planning on getting a new card for a while but yea.... so figure I may as well water cool it as well now instead of waiting 2-3 months.
So whats the best temp program these days?
 
Realtemp.
Speedfan has considerably lower temp readings then the majority of all temperature programs. I personally wouldn't rely on it for accurate/safe readings. I would guess that your actual temperature is between 53-57c., on Load.

And no I don't think adding the 5870 will effect temps too much. I would put it after the CPU in the loop. Adding a single rad after the cpu or video card would never be a bad thing :cool:

Yes you guys were right. Ran the Linpack test with OCCT and Realtemp got up to 58c.

I don't mind the idea of adding another rad, but I would probably just go straight to another 360 which I was planning for dual cards when I added the 2nd loop. So now the question would be is the little mcp350 capable of pumping water through a 360 rad -> cpu block -> TBD internal or external 360 rad -> gpu block -> reservoir.

If not, what is a more powerful but very quiet pump? Will end up getting another pump anyway, but I want my rig to be as quiet as possible, and the mcp350 is pretty much inaudible.
 
Yea it will work for that.

I don't think it would be the best to have 2 GPU's in the loop with the cpu, but it looks like you are already planning on adding another loop.
 
I'm running my Core i7 @ 3.6GHz with CF 5870's and my loop gets up to an average of 55*C under heavy gaming. I'm thrilled with the temps! At idle everything goes down to around 38-40*C.
Both 5870s stay at the same temps with the EK blocks. Running a TFC X-Changer 360 w/ 3 120mm Yate Loons.

I have another triple 120 radiator I'm thinking of putting in the loop, not sure how much of a benefit that will be though.
