Im kinda stuck on a decision. I bought a Sapphire HD7870 XT (tahiti), It works awesome and Im impressed with AMD (always been Team Green). But I do sometimes use my 2560x1440 Monitor and I namely play ARMA 3. So the frame rate is pretty bad. (have i5 2500k @ 4.2ghz atm)

Prices of cards at the moment is ridiculous. But you guys think I will be better off adding another 7870XT to crossfire? Or buying a more powerful single card, and then selling the 7870XT Im using now?

Any advice would be appreciated, i never actually crossfired before, though i have SLI'd.

Thank you.

Well where do you plan on finding one? all of these cards have been snatched up by miners. I would just move up to a better single card and avoid this issues of crossfire all together since frame pacing has yet been fixed.

From experience a more powerful single is better whether it's GPU or CPU. Since prices are jacked up right now I would play ARMA 3 at a lower resolution and/or quality setting to get by until prices normalize then get a single non-reference R9 290 or 290X. Judging by the back order numbers some of the sites show it may be a while though for prices to normalize:

In the same boat, want non-reference R9 290 but not paying over MSRP.

Yeah my card is the powercolor 7870 myst and ive too thought about crossfire but i say a 290 around msrp 770 4gb or 780.

Additionally, its gonna be really hard to find a 7870 XT for a good price, because of the miners. I'd personally upgrade to a single powerful graphic card..

I've sold my CF 7950s and moved onto a r9 290 wf3 model. It clocks alright and works fine but I miss my crossfire 7950s. I only got the two 7950s around October so frame pacing was already out.. might not have been quite as good of an experience before that.

The 290 plays things smoothly and is no slouch, but the CF 7950s was equally smooth and pushed more fps so I could use my Korean 1440p at 120hz.

I'd highly recommend crossfire 7xxx cards at the present time, after working on it for a few years they got it pretty damn right... If you're using a single monitor... And playing dx11 games... And... Ok so maybe it's not perfect for everyone but damn it was close to perfection for me.

Back on track a bit more, if you are gaming at 60hz I'd say it depends on price as to which option I'd take if I was in your shoes. If 7870xt's are selling for $150 used i'd get another one and crossfire. If they are selling for closer to $250 I'd sell yours and get a r9 290.. gtx780 also a good option! Sorry I'm not up to date with prices outside of my own country..

I'd lower my settings.
It's a good rule of thumb to wait 3 generations until you upgrade your gear for $/fps.

id sell your 7870 and get a new nvidia (only because of the market prices of used amd is hot)

Id like to wait, but I need to justify the monitor I have. And I dont mind spending a little $ for a solid experience with games.

Thinking maybe a GTX770 if I can get a decent deal on one, Because finding a used Tahiti 7870xt is proving to be a pain in the ass.

Thanks guys, any more insight is appreciated.

Odds of finding a 7870xt for a fair price are low.... If you want better performance your probably gonna need to change cards. I think your card can crossfire with all tahiti cards, but it won't matter since they will all be over-priced. :(

290 or jump ship for the green team

Dump your card, BC used prices are absurd.
Buy a 780.
Evaluate the 4k situation in 2015.
