Ad keeps popping up, help!

assembled new system
went to lan party
had gateway so downloaded some patches for every game
apparently since the system was new and i hadn't install all the updates for fresh winxp
and went to the lan party , i got some ads popping up every time i start up "iexplorer"
whenever i click a url it keeps popping up some ad's and drive me crazy.

runned adware and spybot. and they detect a lot of bugs but after i remove them and start iexplore again they come back .

dont know what to do.

i have never had this problem bec. im always running my firewall and keep my system up to date
but this time i didnt had time before the lan party.

help will be apreaciated ...
 
Did you update adaware and spybot before running them?

I would say try hijackthis would be the next step. Also look into CWShredder.
 
Update your adaware and antivirus.
Boot to safe mode.
Run adaware.
Run antivirus.
Make sure the only entry in the hosts file (c:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts open with wordpad)
is "127.0.0.1 localhost " besides the remarks describing the file.
any other entries should be deleted.
If you still have the problem then you need to run hijack this and post the results.

I had the same problem, then I updated my spybot to 1.3 and it took care of them for me.

Also, did you try just browsing through your "ADD/REMOVE Program" List?
