I know i'm a n00bie. Going to do my first water cooling and I have some good help to do it. My plan is to go with a Dangerden setup just get all the stuff from their site. I want to get the Nvidia 6800 block. The TDX block for cpu and the Maze4 for the chipset. I wanted to do it all.

My main question is mainly for the case. I was sorta wanting to get a full acrylic case but notice they are mostly just mid-tower cases. I dont think this will fit for what I want to do. Anyone know of a full-tower acrylic case? or should I just say forget about the acrylic and get a nice case w/ an acrylic side?

What has other peoples experiences been w/ full acrylic cases? I am mainly concerned with all fitting with a VPU, CPU and Chipset water block all in one case.

Just wanting to know I might be ordering stuff here soon.

Thanks,
Dan

i dont have any experience with them but im willing to bet they crack rather easily so dont drop or accidently kick it. hey you should take a look at the orac3... its bad ass and its a good example of watercooling in a acrylic case! If you could make something like this you would be a mod'master!

G-gnome is the master of mods'

BTW, frozen cpu has a full tower but its pricey ($239)

One of my computers is housed in an acrylic case, and let me tell you... they require alot of upkeep.

If you get an acryllic case, you're going to want fan filters... dust buildup is horribly noticable.
You will need to clean it a lot... or don't touch it at all (which isn't really feasible.)
You'll need to be really careful of scratching it (mine has scratches all over and I don't even know how they got there!)

In all... I don't think it was worth it. I wanted to have all my comp guts visible, but the work involved in keeping it presentable is way more than I'm willing to do.

i think that it is quite possible to make it fit into a mid-tower, however i don't like the lack of proper grounding and shielding in those things................

you will probably be happier in the long run if you get a large case (not necessarily a full tower, but larger than a plain old mid) and dress it up nicely.

i would also suggest getting a cheap sacrificial case to try test fitting and running in for a while, so you are less likely to end up scratching or otherwise damaging your nice case while you work on it.

You know this might not be a bad idea. I have a great case that would be PERFECT for water cooling.....BUT its an old style and i just wanna be hip and cool with a new cool looking case....I have a cheiftec with a clear window. I'll probably just go ahead and go with a new thermaltake or the like case. who knows. i'm not ready to buy and i figured i'll just get all the water-cooling hardware first. I'll let you guys know as I build probably be in a couple weeks I hope.

My main system is ClearPC MidTower:

http://www.clearpc.ca

I'm currently building a system based on the Sunbeam LAC-UVT case. AnandTech has done two roundups of clear cases, the most recent in July of last year. Just look under Cases section and go back a ways.

I've heard a lot of people mention the upkeep issue and I've never really experienced that with my ClearPC. However, I am beginning to see what is meant with the Sunbeam. The two cases are made from completely different materials and the Sunbeam shows fingerprints/scratches like crazy. The ClearPC, even though you would want to keep it as clean as possible, seems to not show fingerprints and such as much and is also much easier to clean.

Every other week I open the side of my case and vacuum out the odd fuzz ball and whatnot. My case sits on TOP of my desk (why hide such a nice case on the floor) which probably keeps me from getting a lot of fuzz/dust/etc. in my case.

Every 8 months or so, usually when I'm flushing my WC system anyway, I remove everything from my case and clean it with mild soap and water. If it was a regular case, I wouldn't have to do this, but then it would be a regular case, wouldn't it :). It takes all of about an hour, big deal.

Is it more maintence than a regular case? Yes. Is it worth it? For me, yes.

Here's a very old pic back when I first installed my first WC setup:

(Yes, I've cleaned up the cable clutter since then)

My server is built using a LanBoy Plus and I have 2 HTPC systems using an Antec Aria and a Shuttle SN95G and those are all nice cases but my pride is and always has been my ClearPC system.

I'm pretty sure that my main system will always be watercooled and it will always be housed in a clear case.

HTH, I say go for it.
