I'm building a machine with the following components:

MSI K8T Neo
Radeon 9700 Pro (Powercolor)
512 PC3200 DDR (2) -- Mushkin
WD 80GB HDD (Special Ed)
LiteOn CDRW
Antec Lanboy case w/ 350W Power Supply

When booting the machine, I get no display. I added another video card to the agp slot, which worked fine, and then used a pci video card, which also worked. Thinking that I had a bad video card, I RMA'd it, but the replacement has the same behavior. Power seems to work okay, and the fan on the card is running.

I noticed that the bios (American Megatrends) has the following AGP settings (1x, 2x, 4x), but that the 9700 pro is an 8x card. Could that have anything to do with the problem?

Also, I decided to install Win2K (using the pci video card), but now I am getting stop errors on booting into windows citing HDD corruption and "unable to load the registry" problems.

I'm going to put the card in another machine to test whether it is actually working, but in the interim:

1. Is there any reason that the k8t and the 9700 pro would not work together?
2. Are there any bios settings that could be problematic? Should I load defaults? Should I try flashing the bios?
3. Could HDD problems be contributing to the video card not booting up? Unplugging the HDD doesn't seem to make any difference, however.
4. There are two switches on the video card (marked "ON" and "KE"). What do these do?

Tried to search the forum, but the function is disabled.

Very frustrated. TIA for any responses.

It will run fine on AGP 4X. That's not the problem.
I had the same problem when I installed my current mobo.
I had my 9700 hooked up to the same power lead as my hard drives (which worked flawlessly with my previous mobo), and it wouldn't boot or POST. The fans would all run, but that's as far as it went.
I switched my 9700 to another power lead (which the hard drives were not on) and voila!
I think it's because the 9700 draws so much power that between it and thhe hard drives, they are both starving for power.
Merlin 704 even lost 3 hard drives because his 9700 starved them to death!
Hope this helps!
