Just a few notes if anyone cares
I visited Circuit City today and spent a bunch of time looking at:
LG L204WT
Acer AL2216WBD
ViewSonic VX2035WM
ViewSonic VX2235WM
First off, they were all on VGA so that handicaps things a bit. I thought the VX2235WM was unnacceptably washed out and I spent some time trying to adjust it to no avail.
The LG L204WT's mythical contrast ratio of 2000:1 is mythical. Not a bad panel at all - but it was not a standout in contrast. The ViewSonic VX2035WM looked on par with the LG. Meaning they were both good very good.
What surprised me totally was the Acer AL2216WBD. It must have a very good VGA input because it (and all Acer panels on display) was by far the best panel based on brightness, uniformity and color. Funny because I normally would ignore the brand, not anymore though. I was messing around and someone else came by and said "I'm in graphics design and I've got to say that Acer is very impressive!". I was tweaking the LG at the time.
Anyway - thought I'd share - the surprise of the day was an Acer. Too bad the Samsung 225BW was a no show there.
A final note - 20" is very small compared to 22". That was a big surprise as well. Only the Acer seemed to maintain the clarity of the 20"s with the same pixel density and lager size.
