Hi all,
I've set up a dlink home security camera which connects to my router.

I am able to view everything by software and browser just fine (by entering in the assigned internal IP 192.168.x.x).

I am wondering if there is a way I would be able to access the camera from my browser outside of my internal network? For example, if I am at a friends house, I cannot enter 192.168.x.x in the broweser and view the cam....so is there a way to be able to access this externally?

I have a dlink camera, and a dlink router.

Thanks for any help.

Yup..open/forward the ports necessary to access the web based viewer (refer to documentation)..open/forward those ports on your router....and the camera should have a static LAN IP..either manually set it, or make a DHCP reservation for it if your router supports that. Access it from the outside via the WAN IP address, or some DNS alias you give it, or more likely, may need to setup a dyndns account.

hmmm.
I've set the camera to 192.168.0.102 on port 8080.

I've setup a Virtual Server and added 192.168.0.102 to it on port 8080.

I'm a little confused now.
What happens after this?

192.168.0.102 is a LAN IP address. You cannot access your camera by typing in the LAN IP address unless you are inside the LAN.
As Yeoldestonecat suggested, signup with dyndns.

Yes..i realize this. Thats why I am asking HOW i would be able to access it from outside of my internal network.

I've port forwarded already, and set a static INTERNAL ip for the camera.

I'm not sure what DYNDNS is and what I need to set it up. I have created the account (username + pass)...but I don't really understand what it is supposed to do.

Thanks again!

Cool thanks!

So I set up a host name @ dyndns.org.

I've placed the same info with my login and password on my Routers setup page.
I've port forwarded the camera
