Ok right now I'm running a 128 SSD and as you can imagine have a few game installs I've ran out of room.... I have a 500 gb drive laying around that I'm thinking about using as a secondary drive.

I like to do a re-format/fresh install pretty often (maybe quarterly) so my question is if I install programs/games on the secondary drive and then later down the line I do one of my quarterly fresh installs how would that affect the programs/games? Would I just make a new short-cut on the desktop? Seems like I tried that in the past (maybe with XP?) and had problems with programs/games not working unless I re-installed them.

Any tips or tricks would be great.

Steam works well. All you have to do is just run the steam.exe and it'll rebuild it. No need to reinstall the steam application.

That's how I am currently doing things. I kept my original drive, added my SSD, and just made a shortcut of the steam.exe from my disc drive. Works peachy clean. As for other applications, it doesn't work too well. It still needs some of the registry keys to make it run.
