Here's a wild one: If it isn't working right, RMA it. :p

You paid more money for the BFG to get that lifetime warranty.......use it.
 
You should leave it as it is. I'd rather get unlimited 6800GTs from BFG instead of putting the Zalman on it. Just make sure your case is well ventilated
 
Yeah, the heatsink comes off, but you'll void your warranty when you do it. I did it to mine in order to put some Arctic Silver on it instead of the silicon-based stuff that's on there stock, now I'm screwed.

Here's what BFG Tech said when I emailed them about it:
Dave,

Don't do it. If the card is in-fact defective, call us to RMA it. If you physically manipulate the card, it will no longer be under warranty.
