yeah, usually you write the dispatch number on the box. then ups comes and slaps the return shipping label on and give you a slip as a reciept, then its on its way back to Dell without you getting out of the house. call them back, give them your case number and see if you can arrange it the normal way.

I had to do the process this past week for my 2405 as well. Once you call Dell Support and they will generate an order which should be delivered overnight after 24-48 of processing. Once you receive the monitor, you need to contact Dell and then they will schedule a pickup for you. You probably have to contact them a few times as it took 3 contacts to Dell Support for UPS to finally come and pick it up. You need to write the reference number on the outside of the box. Once the UPS driver comes, he wll put the shipping label on the box and give you a receipt with the tracking number. You now will need to contact Dell Support with the tracking number to verify that you shipped the defective one out.

I had to do an RMA for one of my 2005FPW's(before I returned them both for credit) and the rep sent an airbill with the replacement monitor. I was told I had to take the monitor to a DHL(Airborne) depot to have the defective unit returned, which I did.

My experience is that UPS shows up at your delivery address to pick it up the returned monitor. I also wondered about putting the old monitor in the new box. I asked them if I could put the old monitor in the old box and they said that was OK.

It depends on the dell rep you talk to. first option they have is to just send you a replacement part with a prepaid airbill/shipping label/slip inside the box. you then place your return in the box, slap on the label and call the courier ups/fedex/dhl (dell contracts with all three) to come and pick it up, or you can drop it off it one of the couriers locations.

the second option is they call the couriers directly and set up a pick up for you. the driver comes out to your location with a box and label, waits for you to package your part and then takes it from you. once the pickup is done you're suppose to wait a couple of hours before you call dell to tell them your part has been picked up. they confirm that with your tracking # and dps number. now you have to wait for your item to arrive at dell in austin, tx or trillium in Ky. after a couple of days they ship out a replacement.

lets hope they go with the first option. it sucks when dell schedules the pick up since you wont have a repleacement until they get the defective one back. not to mention dell reps screws up 8 out of 10 times, so then you have to call ups/fedex/dhl yourself and have them look through a couple of million pick ups for yours and fix whats wrong. or calling dell back directly and have them try to figure out whats wrong(which is going to dely the whole process a couple of days). Also if they go with the first option you have the choice of having someone pick it up or just dropping it off somewhere.

......well thats how its "suppose" to work anyways.

I’ve got a new Dell 2405FWP that develops a high pitch whine after 2 hours of operation that I’m going to contact Dell about sending back this week. Since I’ve had the monitor less than a week I was wondering if Dell will replace it with a new or refurbished unit. Other than the whine, which is heat related, this monitor is perfect. I’ve had some bad experiences in the past with refurbished replacements and I’d be incline to go for a full refunded in lieu of getting a refurbished unit.

I have the normal power supply hum or buzz that’s barely audible when the monitor is cold, but once it heats up it’s as if someone literally throws a switch and the monitor starts to emit a much louder high pitched whine. The whine is so loud you can hear it walking past the door to the room. As soon as the backlight shuts down, whether you turn the monitor off or it goes into sleep mode the whine stops. If you immediately wake the monitor up the whine starts right back up. If you let the monitor cool for a short period of time the whine will disappear until it heats back up again. Other than the whine the monitor is perfect.
