A shuttle for Pentium D ?

I looked around the barebones section at newegg, and there isnt any listing for Pentium D compatablility (LGA 775). Even though its not listed, will this shuttle work? Thanks.
 
....gets a headache whenever he trys to figure out Intel compatibility and processor numbering schemes....
 
is it a BIOS thing? Will the CPU be recognized regardless?

wow i didn't know those were out already. anyway, yes, that shuttle will work with a Pentium D. intel chipsets 945G/P and higher support dual core processors. i didn't know this had Soundblaster Live! EAX HD 7.1 for onboard sound.

Seriously, get an Athlon 64 X2. The lower electric bill will pay for the higher up-front cost.
 
i agree with the temp comment. my pent d 820 @ 3.5 with both cores full load (prime core 1 occt core 2 and looping 3dmark) still hit 61c in a mid tower with excelent airflow (2 120mm ins and 2 120mm's out) it was with a lapped copper/ alum stock cooler with as ceramic.

they are very cheap to pick up these days, not that the intel edge program has ran its course the market is flooded and they can be had for $130 or less, even new! if you want to move into economy duel core its a good opertunity for you to do so.duel cores are definatly much funner to play with. its nice to see how cheap ddr2 is these days compared to good old ddr. intels are not a bad processor by any means, its just that amds solution is better. it will change at the end of this year/ early next with intels new chips and amd with nothing new other than m2 ddr2.
 
Are you both high? The 920s run in the low 20's, puulease, toaster? Tell that to AMD, AMD X2's run hotter. Do some research first, 6 5 n m. By the way, how can you prove that AMD's "solution" is better? Where are your facts? Cmon people, stay the hell out if your going to give me comments without backed-up facts.
 
I don't know about the 920, but the top-of-the-line 65nm P4 vs. AMD FX60 comparison here is enlightening. The 920 should have a similar power consumption gap with the X2 3800+.

65nm helps Intel but they're still woefully behind AMD.

Also, 20C = 68F (Google "20C to F" for a handy conversion), which should be about ambient temperature if you're trying to keep your winter heating bill in check. Either the temperature sensor is extremely miscalibrated or whoever told you that is making stuff up.
 
Ehh, its enlightening but its not appliable here. Im getting a dual-core, running consistently cooler than previous P4 offerings, and consistently faster (dual-core, duh :p). And well, 65nm does more than you might think :p . Not to mention the 920 D is $269, FX-60 is $1,200. We can see the clear winner. About the temperature, I highly doubt it. The wind created by the fan causes the air to be a few degrees cooler than ambient, and, Sub-20C was probably achieved by a user with WC, no big deal.
 
The X2 3800+ is $322, not a large premium over the 920 D. As for cooling the CPU below ambient, that violates the laws of physics unless you're using a water chiller or thermoelectric cooler or something like that. Plain water cooling won't do it.

Power consumption measured at the wall can be accurately compared, and AMD stomps Intel on that score. Intel's "Netburst" architecture is horribly inefficient, which is why they're working on dumping it in favor of a Pentium M derivative.
 
im not bashing on either intel nor amd, but emission, is the 920D stock 2.6ghz, and thats y ur comparing it with an fx-60? if so... in clock to clock performance, amd absolutely rapes intel (the desktop line at least, not the pentium m's). but then, intel chips are generally clocked much higher, which makes up for this.

im too tired/lazy to check up on the 920 stock speed, comparisons, and overclockabilities, so im gonna just say if the OP wants to go intel, let him go intel. no need to argue about it in here.

Err, 20C? Not happening even on 65nm.

920 + Shuttle = No need for heater in your PC room.
 
i would go with a cheaper opteron rater than make your wallet bleed. most available cores should do 2.5 right now. the better earlier cores went all the way to 3.0 and beyond.

there really is nothing wrong with a pressler, the are not any faster than the smithfields they replaced, just a die shink. but they do use less power, heat, and more overclock headroom. its just that netburst is getting up there in years. the next name for intel will be conroe. duel core desktop pentium m's. they hang with the amds very well.

just so you can get an idea of how a few different x2's perform the larger l2 on the opterons in amds eyes equate to 200mhz, (at least it did in the fx line)
