Over Christmas (or, for the politically-correct, Holiday) Break, I'm going to be building a new machine for my aunt. She does graphic design and such things on Illustrator, Photoshop, etc., so she needs big drives, and she also needs reliability, as this is her job. So I want to put a RAID 1 (Mirroring) array in there with two 120GB drives...

...except I have no idea what to do. I know on the install screen for Windows, you hit 'F6' to load the RAID drivers, and they're supposedly on a floppy; only problem, there's no floppy with the motherboard (Retail, mind you, not OEM). What do I do? Where can I get the RAID drivers?

It'll probably be an i865P system, with the RAID running on an ICH5-R, more likely not ASUS's P4P800 SE.
 
You boot your machine hitting a key combo illistrated in your manual for the raid controller , For expample if its the Intel ich5r you would hit control and the letter I.

That puts you into the raid controller bios were you can configure the type of array you wish. make sure the hardrives are the same manufacturer and size to reduce the likelyhood of errors. Once you have done that you reboot to the mother board cmos and make sure your raid contorller is set to enable as a boot device then move to the normal boot sequence section and select cdrom as your first boot device. Place your XP disc in the cdrom drive and reboot the machine and if it does not boot off the cd rom you will need to hit the fkey , i thinks its F12 that will pull up a booot sequence choice screen and select cdrom..........it depends on the mobo.........then procede with the xp install using f6 for the raid controlller drivers and every thing shoud go fine.

Once your done load the rest of the chipset drivers and software and later you can set the raid array as your first boot device to speed up boot times.


This is a generic explantion your results will vary according to system config so read your manuals
