I'm surprised there's never been an official [H] Mod Challenge, (unless I somehow missed it over the past few years).. But I think that would be really cool, maybe have Steve dig up a prize and give people a month or 2 to come up with some original work. Good idea? :confused:
 
Instead of the same old contest how about one with classes,
1 for Unlimited
1 for Ugliest
1 for futuristic
1 for noobs
and so on...
 
we definately should. i already have a concept in my head right now, and its pretty exciting! i want to mount an LCD on the side of a midtower. i have both a spare midtower and a 15" LCD. i was thinking i could paint them the same color (probably black) so it kinda blends in. can you imagine taking that to a lanparty? just showing everyone the window and then turn it to the other side and you have your monitor! im seriously think im gonna check out all my stuff when i get home from work, it sounds fun. the only problem is that i would have to figure out how to power the monitor... would you be able to power it from the power supply? probably too much wattage to run off a normal PSU...

Here is a cool case for you, it has the DVD built into the face so when your LCD is in the side panel the DVD ejects out the side too.

Yeah, I've seen that mod a couple of years ago. I almost did it with my briefcase mod (just what it sounds like, a PC in a briefcase), but the viewing angle wouldn't have been very ergonomic. LCDs don't have much power draw - the Dell 19" in front of me is about 120w max, probably far less in actual operaton. The secret is finding one with an external power brick that outputs 12v to the LCD. Just replace the power brick with a line from the PSU and you're done.

ya thats good. this 15" LCD probably will never use more than 70-80 watts max. and yes, now that i think about it, it does have an external "brick" lol. this should make things much easier.

that is a nice case but its way too expensive for this build lol...
 
It would be really cool to see what some of you guys could think up in a time-restrained competition :D I'd enter the noob project.
 
talk to some mods here and tell about that idea. we can start it in a couple days and end in one month from now...

most of us have school or jobs some with familes and only have a few hours a week, sometimes only on weekend to dedicate to mod work, so very little would get done in 1 week!

There is no way you can make a GOOD mod in one week unless you are working 22 hours a day for 7 days with no breaks and every part already ready and exact design made up.
 
I didnt mean to hurry you guys. There are a lot of mods that people put thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours but,
I think it would be nice to have a MOD Contest that everyone could have a chance in.. :D
 
How about a mod contest for the regular guy. I have built mods for thousands and that took several hundred hours. But how bout one for regular people.
NO Water or SLI just reg comps.

That way people who dont have access to unlimited funds would have a chance to see others and learn from them. To pick up basic ideas about cooling and lighting. Without feeling like they have no chance.
 
I'm game. I spent just over $1000 buying everything. And half of that would have been for the case if I didnt' work there.
 
What do you think about
1 video card(no SLI ,Crossfire)
1 or 2 HDDs(no 3 or more)
Air cooling(no TEC,Water,Exotic)
Must use a reg case( no custom made cases)
Lighting ok
Awards for Ugliest, Best use of money(cheapest), Smallest, Best OC, Nicest Wiring

If there is a limit on money what should it be?
 
i'm game! now i just need to figure out how to cut plexi without cracking it
