Hello, Ive been using a Abit KX7-333 with an Athlon XP 2500+ for some time now with 1 stick of 256 MB MUSHKIN PC2700 RAM.
This ram has a gold heatsink on it (Factory heatsink).
A couple months ago, I got another 256mb stick of mushkin pc2700 ddr ram. The only difference is that this one does not have a heatsink.
The problem is, when I use this RAM, the computer sometimes randomly restarts, and UT2003/2004 crashes all the time. A while back I turned off auto-restart on system failure and the errors all pointed to memory. Right now im using my old mushkin stick with the heatsink on it, but I need the 512 mb.
I also ran the memory test program that microsoft put out, and after running it several times, it found nothing wrong with the ram. (This is the newer one without the heatsink im referring to)
So, could this be bad ram, or could it be overheating?
Im running at about 1.9 GHz. (11.5 X 166 DDR)
If its overheating, would a ram heatsink help, or do they not work very well?
