hi all, i was dling some porn(dont laugh) off kazaa like i always do. i downloaded this one file and when i tried to play it, it gave me the "error unknown problem could not play" message. which isnt too unusally, i've downloaded some files before that gave the same msg. then i tried deleting it and it gives me the message saying "error cannot delete: file is being used by another person or program". hmmm this has happened before and i usually just restart my comp and it deletes fine. but this time nothing is working. i ran adware and spybot and cleared everything. still wouldnt let me delete. then i ran a norton full system scan, found nothing and still couldnt delete.

can anyone help? wtf is going on? why wont it delete?

3 reasons

either someone is uploading that file in your kazza or any other file share program
or
the file is enfected with virus and norton is locking the file and it is unable to delete file.

i faced the same problem, when norton trys to delete the file and it can not, try to delete it yourself (which you wont be able to do it as well) and then restart, sometimes this works and sometimes does not, if it does not work, and whilte you are loging into the windows disable norton auto protection and go and delte that file (do not double click) just delete it and then enable norton.

if this did not work, open your task manager (if you are using w2k or winxp) and chek if you see the same file is running there, if u see it, just right click on it and end the task then delete.

you need to make sure that this progam is not scheduled to run with your windows startup, so if u do not know how to reach the startup files in the registry then click start-run-and type (msconfig) then click ok, go to start up and remove the program from there.

First off you will want to download a program called "who lock me". IT will tell you what process is using the file. Most likely it is Explorer. If this is the case, you will need to go into the registry and find the key for AVI and set its behaviour to 0. I do not remember the exact key :rolleyes:for this but someone will see this and be along shortly to clue you in. Explorer is attempting to read the size of this corrupt file and cannot complete this action so it is spinning in an infinate loop. Most likely Explorer is taking up around 80 to 90% of your CPU cycles as well. I will go and see if I can find that exact key and get back to you.

OK, found the info you need. Keep in mind that if you have an infected file of if it is being shared as above than this is not going to fix it.

1. Open regedit
2. Goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler
3. Delete the "Default" value which should be "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}"

If you are having an AVI locked up as I have had, this will knock it dead. After you do this you should be able to nuke the file no problem. It might be best to reboot after your registry hack and then delete. Good luck! :p

ctrl alt del... Close explorer.exe process..

Windows key + r ... type cmd.exe

Delete the file from the command prompt...

Windows key + r... type explorer.exe

Easy...
