I have a old computer with a few new parts. I recently reorganized my home network to make this machine a file/print server (for the most part). I am consistantly getting the following error a few days after each installation that only happens when I reboot the machine:

Searching for Boot Record from CDROM..Not Found (no disc in drive)
Searching for Boot Record from IDE-0..OK (seems to find the drive but then...)

A disk read error occurred
Press ctrl+alt+del to restart

I have installed WinXP three times, the hard drive is brand new. My only assumption is that the drive is bad, but running seagate tools on the drive did not reveal any errors.

you did check to make sure that all the connections are ok?
boot order ok too?

I had some problems installing WinXP on my PATA HDD, since it was the secondary master (nf4 mobo). switching to the primary master channel fixed that.

I managed to get the machine to boot up by updating bios. Maybe my problems will be solved. Thanks
