Hello and thank you for reading my plea for help.

I am running client version 7.3.6 on windows 7 and I am trying to get my GPUs running consistently. Every so often a GPU work unit will get stuck at 99% completion and will sit there forever until I restart the machine. At that point the work unit will revert back to somewhere else in the completion process (83% or 60% for example)

The problem seems to follow the GPU as I have used different GPUs (with different drivers, currently 13.11 beta) in one of my three rigs. My 7870 chugs along with nary a problem. I used to have two 7790s (factory OC) that would get the problem in both my wife's and kid's machine. I recently tried to tackle this again with my R9 280x, but on the second work unit it got stuck.

I have read on these forums previously that OCed cards can be flaky with folding. So, I have been downclocking the factory OC of 1100mhz down to 1000mhz on the core using afterburner. so....

TLDR
I want my 280x to fold
Is it flaking because of factory OC?
Even when underclocked?

Delete the projects folder, it will most likely be in app data on windows, but not sure.

@sc0tty8: Most people couldn't even use v6, v7 is better for most people.

My v7 files are in app data>roaming>FAHClient.

When I switched from my 7970 to the 780ti I did the nuclear option and uninstalled the client and deleted all of the fah related files and folders. Extreme but effective.

Are you noticing the behavior on a particular work unit? There may be some bad ones loose in the wild, that can't complete. I don't know much about GPU units, but I have seen this on some other projects. If that is the case, see if anyone has posted about the same unit on the folding forum and if not, post there.

If you are locking up on random units, then it may be a bad install or a bad GPU.

I'll participate a little more.

I have experienced the same issues, mainly on windows and with AMD cards. Forcefully stopping the client does not help. Killing the cores manually still requires a reboot in order to fold.

Yes. I'have had this as well on both core 17 and core 15, with v 7.2.x and 7.3.x clients. It is obnoxious. If you peep at gpu-z, the cards will be under load, and hang at 99%, even for DAYS.

I've used WHQL and beta drivers, stock, factory oc, and my own oc. All same results. All with plenty of voltage. I've even installed a larger psu, and upgraded cooling.

My experience has been anything v7 is flakey with AMD cards regardless of what I've tried. I've spend a substantial amount of time on the #fah IRC channel and have made no usable headway, get told the same things, and basically said fuck it and gave up.

I've not tried linux, I hear the new gpus are a real treat under linux when folding.

Thank you for the responses. I will try deleting F@H directories and do a fresh install and see what happens. As far as the work units.. I am not 100% sure. The most recent unit to hang was 8900, but at the same time I've completed a bajillion of those before with no problems.

@sc0tty8 it sounds like you are in the exact same boat as me. Its nice to know I am not alone at least..
