What temps should my 9800XT run at when idle, and when in games?

I am suspicisous that the card I bought is heat damaged, and am trying to figure out whats going on with it. I totally reapplied the heatsink and ramsinks but its running about 60C idle. Is this OK? or should it be cooler?

Can anyone tell me what their 9800XT runs at according to the Overdrive temp gague?
 
Idle temps aren't really that important. Run rthdbrl (I'm not sure if this abbreviation is correct though) in a window and keep your eyes on the temp guage in your drivers at the same time (if it starts hitting the 80C range, I would start to become concerned).

All in all, the 9800 series cards do tend to produce a fair bit of heat.

Does anyone know an application that will show up over a game I am playing to show temps? Or just a temperature log so I can see how hot it is?

Here's the link to rthdribl (finally figured out how to spell it). Personally, I have never had the need to use it, but you should be able to run it in a window and veiw your temps at the same time ;) .

I reseated my friend's cooler with AS5 and that brought down the temps by 15ºC

Make sure that shitty metal clip in the back has good spring still so your cooler is on good.

thanks, i'm going to try that now. Sorry for not getting back on that sooner. I've been using my laptop the last couple days, and not bothered with my desktop

Does anyone else have some temps I can use to help compare?
 
Compare with mine on VF700-Cu heatsink. I got around 28 C idle and 35 C load with AS5. Seem like u got weak stock coolin.

k for standard r360 video card with stock coolin should be around 40 C idle and 55 C load. does this help? :cool:
 
Yes, very. I figured that sounded more like a reasonable range. I think i'm going to invest in a cooler like yours. Where did you buy yours from?

Thanks for your help, even if your temperatures are sickeningly lower than mine. :p

And, Quick question as to what you are using to hold on the ramsinks? I've never used any kind of thermal epoxy and it looks like that is what those ramsinks require.

I found that Rivatuner reports temps that sound much more reasonable to me. Its only actually running at 55deg C while under a slight load. I guess the driver CP for overdrive reports a +20 degree difference to discourage overclocking. This was news to me! I'll still probably buy that cooler to lower my temps, but I am eased that I am not +50 degrees higher than your temps.
 
thanks. I knew everest rocked, but I didn't know it had a temp monitor in it :D Everest and rivatuner reported a max temp of about 57deg C under load during 3dmark 2k5 so :D
