Just ordered one of these off of newegg for $345. What's surprising me is that the item is still in stock after almost a day already. Doesn't a deal like this usually go out in like less than 30 minutes? Is it because the 9800xt refurbs usually don't work out or is it just that newegg has a lot of them. Anyways, I just hope that mine gets here and works out fine. BTW, does anyone have any experiences with 9800xt/pro refurbs from newegg?

That's a whole lot of $$ to be spending on something with a 15 day warranty. Good luck to you though :)

My roommate got a refurbished 9700 pro from newegg for like 245 a month after they were released. He's still running it, and actually has it OC'd to a 9800 pro :).

hm when the newegg warranty runs out, shouldn't the ati warranty still be in effect?

Thats because many of us can clock our 9800 Pro's higher then the XT's can clock.

Saving $100+
;)

I don't know, the price just seemed to good to be passed up on. Plus I'll be running a lot of benchmarks and tests within the first 15 days to see if any problems show up. Does anyone know any good artifacts tester or any tests that really stresses the video card?

i found to test ati's cards while overclocking to use their "Bear Demo", the "Natural Light Demo", 3dmark 03 and 2k1. Those seem to put alot of stress on the GPU. BF1942 also does a good job of heating it up.

Hope that helps

Guess you missed all the horror stories of Newegg refurbs not working at all. According to Newegg themselves they don't even test the refurbs. Good luck with yours though, no way in hell I would buy one.

Of course there will be more "horror stories" about refurbs, but many people, like myself, have purchased several refurbs without a problem. And even though the warranty is rather limited, its still there, and you get what you pay for.

It's that most people expect refurbs to have been testing to work fine. I know I do.

yeah, I hope this works out for the best; we'll see tomorrow. Btw does anyone know if fedex delivers on Lincoln's day? If not, I guess I'll have to wait till Tuesday.

I placed an order for a cpu & mobo from Newgg on Thurday. Just being shipped free fedex saver but according to my fedex tracking number not due for delivery until the 11th. So it sounds like nothing is moving on Monday to me. Its been in New Jersey since Friday?

BTW, Aquamark will stress your vid card MUCH more then 3dmark2001 or 2003. I cannot hit 475 on my 9800 Pro core without white dots artifacting. In 2001 & 2003 I can run it 486-490 without the white pixel popping.

GL with the card. I've boughten two refurb mobo's (one is this 8RDA+) and they've worked with no problems. Sounds like a deal to me.

thx, i'll post an update as soon as it gets here, and if I'm lucky enough, it might also include the hl2 coupon :)

very very very very very lucky

no coupons for you son.. ha!

But 345 = shweet! I wish I had that dough to blow..

lol the wait is killing me, it's still at step 2 on newegg, meaning if they don't work tomorrow, then it's probably gonna get here on wednesday earliest. :(

fedex is fast.. if its anywhere near your locale.. they will slap it on your door first thing in the morning..

yeah I live like around 15 miles away from their warehouse in CA, but that won't really matter if they don't work tomorrow. The tracking number will show up mostly likely on tuesday at 6pst and the package will get here on wednesday. If they do work tomorrow however, it'll get here a day earlier :).

ok I just got my card today and it seems that I might've gotten lucky :). However, after the initial reboot after installing the drivers, my taskbar became white wit some black lines going through them. It was only happening to the task bar, nothing else. Then after i rebooted again, everything went back to normal. Just ran 3dmark 03 and got a score of 5995 with no artifacts. I'm gonna go run a few more benchmarks, and maybe even overclock it a bit later tonight. :)

Ewwww.... sounds bad. I hope it was just a freak thing. 5995 doesnt sound so good for an XT, but I dont know cuz all I get with the 9600pro is 3800. However, I was thinking that those could get 8000. *shrug* perhapse you have aa/af turned on? Enjoy your new card and change your sig!

Whats a good score for a XT?I hit 6600 right out of the box and clocked it too 440/401 and got a 7028.This is with a sapphire and with the crappy stock sink on it.My 3DMark03 score went up about 1500 from my 9700Pro clocked to a 9800pro.Hmmm

yeah but look at the rest of your comp compared to mine :p.

I just tried 3dmark01 and I'm only getting around 15k; seems kinda low to me. I'm gonna try turning overdrive on later with the omega drivers. Also what is considered normal temps for an XT, it's at around 64C right now idle and shoots up to around 68C after running a benchmark.

Ya I know,Your score isnt much diffrent then mine.Im just wondering if we both are in the right area i guess. Also mine run at those same temps but mine will go too abot 72c according too the overdrive temp reading.I read before that our real temps are much lower for some reason.

NO! I have emailed ATI regarding refurbished/OEM items and they said that they arent covered under manufacturer warranty. I mainly asked them about refurbished ones but they stated it as refurbished/OEM so I am hoping that they would cover OEM parts since it is brand new. Good luck to the both of us if any thing goes wrong ever.

lol yeah i hear that, I'm still a bit scared to overclock it. I might try to oc it a little in the next few days and do a few more benchmarks just to make sure that the card is fine.

btw, what programs do you guys think it's best to use to oc these ati cards?

I would start overclocking while you still have the 15 days lol. I havent started to OC because I am awaiting some ramsinks in the mail and will be getting that VGA silencer pretty soon. I was worried about overclocking because I thought I would have to flash the BIOS but I hear that with these cards you can just use a program which is a big relief to me.

dude.. overclock the crap outta that thing already.. use either

rage3d tweak from rage3d.com
rivatuner from guru3d.com
radlinker from i dont know where.com ha!

ok i just tried rage3d and oced it to around 430/390 successfully without any artifacts (I'll go higher tomorrow cuz i'm really tired today). 3dmarks scores only went up to around 6280 but this is probably because i didn't run the benchmark off of a fresh reboot like I did with the initial test. Also ran AM3 and also no artifacts. So it seems like I really came out with a good card from this refurb deal :)

hm just wondering one more thing, should I be concerned with what happened after the first reboot after installing the catalysts. That's pretty much the only thing that have went wrong so far. I've gotten no artifacts on any benchmarks, even when overclocked.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, but keep a close eye on things. I know when I first install CAT's, the screen will go black for about 2-3 seconds after windows loads up... but I believe that's normal.

oh yeah i remember that. The screen went black after a few secs and then my taskbar became white wit some black lines going through them. It was fine after I rebooted so I guess it's nothing.

ok I just updated to the new 4.2 catalysts and the taskbar thing happened again after the screen went black following the initial reboot from the drivers install. After another reboot, the taskbar was fine again, so I'm guessing now that this is a new drivers thing. I'm just wondering if this is a form of artifacts and should I be concerned with it. Here's a pic of what it looks like. Note that it's only happening to the taskbar and the rest of the desktop is fine.

hm I just recently encountered some problems; not sure if it's related to the vid card or not. I've been playing most of my games now with 4xAA and 8xFSAA. Then when I was watching some wc3 replays and about 30 minutes or so into the replay, the screen turned black and my monitor gave me the no connection message. My fans were still running, but the sounds and everything stopped so I was forced to reboot. I tried the replays again and it happened again. Then I tried playing the ut2k4 demo for more than 30 mintues and that was fine. So I was wondering if this might be a problem with the video card, or is it just the game. I'm going to try the replays again tomorrow with AA and FSAA turned off and see if it happens again. Card is at stock speeds btw.

You should consider some different drivers. Try the omega 3.10's I switched the them after using the 4.2's and 4.1's because my games would crash to the desktop for now apparent reason. Now it is running very well and no crashes whatsoever. This could be your problem.

ok I think I found the problem, it was because of the vpu recover thing, I turned that off and just finished watching a pretty long replay without any problems.

one more thing though, before I went to sleep last night, i left ati tool on to scan for artifacts. I left the vid settings on 4xAA and 8xFSAA and turned off my monitor. This morning when I turned on my monitor, my whole screen was in messed up colors and it was locked up. Does this show that the card is in some way defective afterall or did I maybe left it on too long with the AA and FSAA settings?

ok i guess the vpu recovery thing didn't work, i still get "crashes" if you will, around 30 mins or so into a replay. Also sometimes after these crashes when i boot back into windows, a message would pop up saying that "The driver for the display device was unable to complete a drawing operation. Please check with the device manufacturer for a driver update." Now I just reverted back to the 4.1s and it was still happening. I just tried running aquamark3 with some of the "test all" boxes checked and on like the second run, it froze again; this time it just froze, screen didn't turn black or anything. When I booted back into windows, I got that same message with the drawing operation thing. When I click on the error report on that message, it links to ati2dvag.dll. Does this mean that it's a software problem instead of a hardware prob? I still have about a week before the 15 days end so I wanna make sure that it's faulty or not.
