yes i know obviously the x800 is rediculously better than the 9800xt but the only thing i am worrying about is the price, ive been considering just going to the 9800xt for the time being... i mean its better than what i have right now (geforce3 ti200)... alot better. im just not sure whether i should go all out and spend the $415-$699 (x800 Pro and XT prices on newegg), $340 for the x800 SE (Which i actually havent heard anything about) or if i should just paya $309-$414 for a 9800xt (as i said before, all prices come from newegg). now i know ive seen the deals for some of the x800s and stuff in HotDeals but i just dont know whether i should dish out that kinda of money
btw im steering away from nvidia somewhat because my current card, while it was good for quite some time, is definately causing me troubles with today's games and... im just not feeling nvidia so much anymore.
so anyway, if anyone has some incite, please lemme know what you think i should do
 
why not go for a 6800 vanilla for about 270'ish on newegg? There is nothing wrong with nvidia cards. They seem like they might fit your budget too. The 9800xt for 300 is a complete waste of money. The 6800 is a really nice card and ATI doesn't have anythign to fill that 300 dollar gap. You could always try the softmod to enable the othe 4 pipelines and have a card that's almost as fast as a GT. It's a hell of a deal if you don't want to spend the 350-500 on an x800pro/XT or a GT/Ultra.
 
ok heres my opinion.. 9800xt for 300 -400? forget it dont even get a 9800xt.. x800pro is u can get it for 320$.. there are places u can get it at that price.. and the x800se for 320? haha no forget it.... if u want to go into teh 400$ price range its 6800GT all da way...

so x800SE and 9800xt forget about them
x800pro= get it only if its around $320
6800GT= get it if u want to spend $400
or if u want to spend $300.. and this will dust the 9800xt.. the 6800NU
or if u want something that is a tiny tiny bit slower than the 9800xt.. get the 9800pro which can be obtain for 170$ or even 150$ in some places... and make sure its a 256bit version..
 
I agree don't waste your time paying that much for a 9800xt. If you have 3 to 4 hundred to spend on a video card I suggest a 6800GT, and this is coming from an ATI fan.
 
what about cheap ass xts?
im getting an xt for less than 200
does that qualify as a good purchase?
 
yes it is a good purchase for less than 200 wait ur talking about 9800xt right? not 9600xt right?? lol..
 
9800pro/XT forget it! its a big jump from ti200 but a 6800 will kill 9800series of cards for a little more $$. unless u got a slow CPU like under 3ghz. goodluck!
 
alright, if you guys say the 6800s are good, perhaps ill try looking into them, any recommendations on brands?

if u check some big sites ull find teh x800pro for about 320-340 but if i was in ur situation id get the 6800NU or spend a little extra to get the 6800gt
 
ya from what ive read, the gt is obviously a hell of alot better than the 6800nu but thats looking at another $100... which is almost 1/2 the price of the $250 nu that im looking... decisions deicisions
 
yeah go for the 6800nu and mod the pipelines to 16 pipes and maybe if ur lucky it''ll be stable and hte gt won't be hella better ;)

My wife works at compUSA. A lot of the x800 pro's they sell at compUSA are vivo's, and will flash to x800 XT PE speeds & pipes. If he'll let you use his employee discount... you can potentially have an x800 XT PE for $350 out the door. At my wife's store, they let me even open the box to make sure the pro was a vivo.
 
HAH that would be awesome if i could get the x800 xt vivo out the door but if nt ill probably stick with the 6800nu
 
If you're sure you want ATi, you should keep the following in mind.

A lot of 9800XT cards had to be underclocked (WITH STOCK COOLING) when Doom3 came around, the same goes for the source engine. I should know, I'm one of the people who had to underclock. It's not a real problem and for the most part there isn't much in the way of noticable performance loss.

That being said, considering the X800 Pro is the same proice as a 9800XT and a hell of a lot easier to get anymore, I'd go with the extra power of the X800 Pro.

So far as I have read, they run superbly.

You know you want infinite pixel shader instruction length. YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT!
