9800pro VS FX5900

In my "gaming" rig I have a PNY 5900 128mb card right now, but, I can get an ATI 9800pro for free. Is it worth the hassle to swap the cards and clean the drivers out? I know they were competing cards in their day, but how do they stack up compaired to each other on new games? I play WoW, bf2, and Source engine games. Should I just toss the ATI card in my 2nd system, or should I main rig it?

Also Nvidia drivers has been TERRIBLE on my comp lately, and I'm forced to run older drivers for stability issues. How are ATI's drivers? I've never owned an ATI card, but I remember back in the day the drivers were just aweful. Thanks for the help!
 
If your getting it for free, take the thing, you will see drastic performance increase in DX 9, enjoy the wonderful effects in HL2. I think all FX cards default to DX8.
 
Another vote to format and swap. 9800Pro is a great card and served me very well for over a year and a half.

How are ATI's drivers and control panel? Like I said in the first post NVidia's drivers have been utter garbage and I'm using drivers from 3 or 4 releases ago. If the newest ATI drivers aren't the best for the card, any specific release I should look for? Or should I just hit omega (or other modded drivers) for a preformance increase (if any). One more thing (I know too many questions), do I need a program to overclock the card?
 
The latest ATI drivers are the Cat 5.7's. I've had good luck with the Cat 5.6's and have not upgraded to the 5.7's myself. The Cat Control Panel works great and is hella easy to use. So the 5.6's or 5.7's and you're good to go unless you wanna try the Omega's.
 
Heh the 9800P is still serving me well. Around 50fps in bf2 with high on everything except the texture detail and i forgot the other one. :p

I totally blocked out nvidias fx series. I know jack shit about them. :D
 
I am using Cat 5.7 driver, and it run a lot better than previous drivers.

Note: I am using 9800XT card.
