Hey, well I kinda got a problem I bought a 9800pro 128 last week and was wanting to know how to change the refresh rate since its running at 60hz. Im using DNA drivers (1.9.3.10a) and my resolution is 1280x1024. I also got a 17 or 18 inch trinitron monitor. Ive tried the catalyst and the omega drivers but they are the same problem. I tried using the search but it said the search feature was disabled. Thx for your help
 
Display control panel->settings->advanced->monitor.

If you can't change the refresh rate from their, you need to install monitor drivers for your particular monitor.
 
Tried what you said already. I guess I will need to find them? wait arent monitor plug and play?

not always unfortunately. I work with a lot of computers, and 90% of the time the refresh rate is locked to 60Hz, it's due to the lack of monitor drivers.

You CAN install a generic plug+play monitor driver and un-check "Only show resolutions this monitor supports", but I suggest getting your monitor driver if you can. Check the manuf. website.
 
I also unchecked only show resolutions this monitor supports and the screen goes black and says out of range. Ive also installed the monitor drivers and no luck :(
 
hmm...

Uninstall vidcard drivers, reinstall Cat 3.8's. Install monitor drivers from manuf. website. Then try, if it still doesn't show up try un-checking "only show supported resolutions", then upping the refresh rate SLOWLY. Remember, it should pop up a confirmation box every time you change the refresh rate, so if the screen goes black all of a sudden, just wait and it should automatically change back in 15 seconds or so.
 
I tried the 3.8 drivers but no luck the only way i could get higher then 60hz refresh rate was to make my 1024x768 with 85hz. I guess I will just keep 60hz
 
You've run into the limitations of 17" monitors. Even with Trinitron tubes, most 17" monitors (~15.5" viewable) max out at only 65Hz refresh rate at 1280x1024. At that resolution, text would be so small that you'd need a magnifying glass just to see the letters clearly. And most 17" monitors really look best at 1024x768 anyway.

So, if you want at least a 75Hz refresh rate at 1280x1024, then you'll need at least a 19" monitor.
 
well my trinitro supports up to 120hz refresh rate even on the display on the ati settings things says so and my viewable size is 16 inches but o well i tried enough I will just keep my 1280x1024 @60hz

I have a 19" monitor and I run 1024x768 @ 100 Hz. Not only is the refresh nice on my eyes, but the screen icons and elements are all large so that I don't have to sit freakin' close to the monitor.
 
I have the same exact problem with my 9700 pro videocard + 17inch CRT monitor.

1. I installed varies cat drivers (using 3.10s) NO LUCK

2. I installed the RIGHT monitor drivers for my model monitor NO LUCK.

3. I run at a res of 1152x864 @60Hz i want to run at least 75Hz refresh rate.

4. I can run 75Hz but have to be in 1024x768 resolution.

5. I already did the registry tweak for windows Xp to change the lock/default/ force of 60Hz on Windows....NO LUCK

6. On control panel/monitors the refresh rate is set to 75Hz (and only show supported is checked) but i go into a game like CS and make sure vsync is on and i still get only 60fps meaning its still on 60Hz.

7. I use to have no problems getting 75hz at 1152x864 on my old Geforce FX5600...SAME MONITOR!

8. When i go into ati control panel then click on ati display it shows 60Hz and thats the highest it goes...at 1024x768 it can run 75Hz.

Whats the deal?!
 
I changed from a GF to an ATI 9500 Pro, had the 'locked' 60Hz nasty, plus screen shimmering. The only way I could force the refresh to what I wanted (85Hz @1280x1024) was to grab Powerstrip 3.4. Not only does this nice proggie allow setting to the proper refresh rate, it fixed my shimmering display too. Other usefull features include setting different clock speeds for specific games/apps etc, which return to default speeds when going back the desktop. Note# I never had the problem with nVidia cards, this is a common (but curable) problem on some ATi cards, in certain configurations. Although the shimmering problem I had 'looked' like EMI, its not.

The trouble is that there is a mismatch in the sync frequencies between the higher refresh-rate settings on your video card and the supported sync frequencies on your monitor for that same refresh rate. As a result, you'll either get garbled video or no video at all. And judging by the sync frequencies on both the card and the monitor, the only match between your card and monitor turned out to be at a low 60Hz refresh rate.
 
On ATI cards there is a separate section(tab) called "Display" I think, you have to setup your max refresh rates there before you can have the "Monitor" tab work correctly.
 
Yeh i fixed it. It was that it was max res was too high res i don't even use so i set my max res to the res i use. And then it allowed 75hz :cool:
