While playing Doom 3, everything suddenly paused for about 10 seconds, and I got this error message:

I was able to Alt-Tab back to D3, then I got the same error message a few minutes later. The game was still playable, but everything got "darker" (if that's possible with D3), like the lights had been cut out completely.

Any ideas?

Check your cooling, driver clean your drivers via one of the stickies in the vid card section, download a new driver and install.

I'd run memtest86.org's memtest86 and let it run a while to see if it was memory corruption related.

Yeah I've got an idea: The error message you get is a part of Doom3 and is displayed whenever ATI hardware is detected

Got this message a lot without overclock and with recommended game settings. Boring crap game.
